Hiring Agency Education & Labor Cabinet | Department of Workforce Development Location 3108 Fairview Drive Owensboro, KY 42303 USA Description About Team Kentucky Internship Program: The Team Kentucky Internship Program was established to bring talented and motivated college students into the world of public service. The program provides meaningful and relevant work experience, professional development activities, and offers interns networking opportunities with other interns across the Commonwealth, all while working alongside state government officials. The Team Kentucky Internship Program is designed to be a prestigious and competitive program; therefore, interested applicants must complete an online application and be vetted through an interview process. Those selected for the program will perform valuable work in our state agencies. To be considered for a position in the Team Kentucky Internship Program, candidates must: Be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet. Be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at hire. Interested applicants must upload their unofficial transcript when applying to TKIP positions. The Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet’s mission is to: Educate -Promote early childhood through 12th grade, post-secondary education, adult education and credentialed training to provide lifelong opportunities for Kentuckians. Encourage -Use of resources and data to improve the prosperity of Kentucky’s workforce. Employ - Actively engage employers to drive Kentucky’s workforce system by creating opportunities for and removing employment barriers for Kentuckians. Enforce -Create a culture of accountability to promote best practices, fairness, and compliance with Kentucky's wage and hour, employees’ safety, health and worker's compensation requirements. The Education and Labor Cabinet’s Career Development Office provides workforce services to Kentuckians who are unemployed, under-employed or searching for a new career path and helps job seekers and businesses with up-to-date labor market information, recruiting information and training. A Day in the Life: Acquire an understanding of job-seeking services provided by the Career Development Office and its partners. Gain experience in assisting businesses and job seekers by answering phones, greeting customers who visit Kentucky Career Centers and helping customers with job search efforts. Become familiar with employment skills, community resources and job programs. Gain experience with computer use and navigation of various online programs. What You’ll Need to Succeed: Be dependable: Ensure that you follow your designated work schedule and meet deadlines. Communicate with your supervisor ahead of time if you are unable to follow your work schedule or if you need further support to meet a deadline. Take initiative: Look for ways to go above and beyond in your day-to-day to show your co-workers and supervisor that you are a self-motivated problem solver. Be a learner: Seek out new opportunities to learn about your state agency and state government. Ask for feedback on your performance - this will show you are receptive and searching for opportunities to grow. Ask questions if you are unsure how to complete an assigned task. TKIP participants will receive additional compensation ($1/hour) for each year that they return to the TKIP, after previously completing the program.
