Jeep Tour Guide (part-time only) Scottsdale Adventure Tours in Scottsdale, AZ is looking for outgoing, high energy outdoor enthusiasts to join our team of professional part-time tour guides. If you enjoy working outdoors, operating off-road vehicles, and learning about and sharing our beautiful Sonoran Desert and State, this transportation service may be for you. Responsibilities & Duties: Transport guests in an open-air off-road vehicle through rugged Tonto National Forest Jeep trails in most weather conditions. Teach guests from around the world about Sonoran desert flora, fauna, history, etc. Basic off-road vehicle maintenance. Transport guests in a 15-passenger transportation van. Qualifications: At least 10 years of continuous, professional employment in any organization. Good driving record. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to pass a USDOT medical examination and a criminal background check. Must be willing and currently able to commute to our operations office in North Scottsdale, Arizona. Tour Guide Training Program: Includes self-paced at-home study materials on Sonoran desert plants, animals, and history. 4x4 vehicle training and certification. First aid certification. Scheduling policy: Our transportation service operates Monday to Saturday (we are closed Sundays). We run at least three tours per day. Each tour is at least four hours in duration. All tour guides are W2 employees. As an employee, you will be scheduled to work when a party books a tour. Every Friday, you will request the days/times that you want to work the following week. You will also request the days/times that you prefer not to work. Every Sunday, you will receive your schedule for the week based on booked tours, which could be scheduled on days/times that you prefer not to work. As the week progresses, you will gain additional shifts as we receive new tour bookings and lose scheduled shifts when parties cancel their tours. Sometimes you will receive six days notice that you are scheduled for a tour; sometimes you will receive 24 hour notice that you are scheduled for a tour. Time off requests require approval at least two weeks in advance. If you do not have approved time off and we are fully booked, you may be called into work in order to fulfill a booked tour, even on the days/times that you prefer not to work. During the October to May season, you will likely be scheduled to work most Saturdays and all holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas. During times when we are not fully booked, we offer flexible scheduling. Overall, the nature of being a tour guide is having an uncertain schedule that constantly changes. Part-time tour guides who are in good standing as an at-will employee could receive up to nine tours in a given week. If your current situation requires a structured Monday to Friday 9:00AM to 5:00PM schedule, this position is not for you. Probationary period and full-time employment: All new employees are subject to a probationary period to determine that the employee meets our high standards of excellence. After successful completion of the probationary period and the tour guide training program (which consists of an oral and written proficiency exam), part-time employees may request to be considered for full-time employment. Our full-time employee slots are limited and, if the slots are filled, part-time employees requesting full-time employment will be placed on an order of merit list to be considered when another full-time slot opens. As of January 2023, there is one unfilled full-time tour guide slot open. Full-time employment will include a pay increase and various full-time employment benefits.
