Therapeutic Recreation Aide Shift available: 4:00pm to 8:00 two to three days a week and every other weekend 8:45am to 4:15pm. POSITION SUMMARY The Therapeutic Recreation Aide is accountable for performing therapeutic programming under the direction of the Therapeutic Recreation Director and according to the overall plan of care with the ultimate goal of enhancing residents’ quality of life. Meets the individual interests as well as physical, emotional and psychosocial well-being of each resident through a variety of programming. Documents participation and interest and collects other data that will be used to determine if individual resident needs are being met and in keeping with the Resident’s Bill of Rights as well as the facility Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES PROVIDES QUALITY THERAPEUTIC PROGRAMMING Initiates and implements daily activities for residents Encourages active participation from all residents Allows ample prep time for groups Incorporates group process in all programs Adapts activities when possible for residents who want to participate, but would have difficulty Assists with creative input for new program ideas Posts schedule of events, maintains daily changes; maintains timely schedule Is aware of daily update census changes and resident information updates Transports residents to/from activities; assists residents during outings outside the facility Builds and maintains strong professional, caring relationships with residents and family members Decorates facility for special occasions/holidays Utilizes “slow” times for planning and research Provides daily 1:1 visits with residents who refuse scheduled groups or have little family involvement Easily gets along with all personality types and with people of different cultures, backgrounds, etc. Assist Volunteers to ensure programs are productive and meaningful DOCUMENTATION AND DATA COLLECTION Maintains accurate participation records on each resident daily Reviews and tabulates resident involvement in programming regularly and quarterly assessment Ensures knowledge of individual resident goals as stated in their care plan Participates in care conferences, as requested SAFETY AND HEALTH OF RESIDENTS Maintains strict adherence to HIPAA in protecting resident personal health information Reports all resident injuries or Vulnerable Adult incidents immediately to TR Director / Administrator Follows proper infection control procedures including proper hand washing and disinfection/cleaning schedules to ensure a safe and sanitary environment Operates and maintains equipment in good working order, reporting any equipment repair needs Cleans all equipment used for programs regularly and as designated QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Desire to work with senior population and those with illnesses and disabilities. Strong ability to build relationships with residents, family and staff Strong in areas of empathy, compassion, adaptability, listening and being an advocate for residents Preferred Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing facility or assisted living community Required Skills and Abilities Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and pivot with sudden demands of your attention Resilience; ability to welcome constructive feedback, course correct and not take it personally Personability; ability to get along with all personality types and inspire trust with residents, staff, family High emotional intelligence (EQ) Ability to actively listen, with the goal of understanding Ability to clearly speak and proficiently read and write in English Comfort in operating in ambiguous situations and with diverse populations Ability to thrive in an environment that is fast-paced and rapidly growing About Monarch: Monarch’s mission is to change the way short term rehabilitation and long-term care is delivered.
