Summary:
The Design Engineer I represents a high level of technical expertise to internal and external customers in a variety of forms that include design assistance, delivering education, and enabling the customer to do business with ScanSource. The focus of the position may be on specified technologies, or on a specific group of suppliers. This role is expected to be an expert in Network Technologies and will act as a trusted advisor to the company's customers. This individual would have detailed knowledge of a multiple product lines, and able to guide a customer through designing the best overall solution which would include hardware, software, and licensing.
Essential Job Duties
• Researches, recommends, and evaluates customer requirements to ensure the needs of the Business Partner and End User are satisfied.
• Prepares configurations via vendor configuration tool with appropriate pricing estimates distributed to all concerned parties.
• Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in field of Network Technology
• Create technical content for sales enablement and marketing
• Attend supplier and partner conferences as needed
• Participate in customer enablement programs
Reporting Relationships
• Under minimal supervision and with appreciable latitude for actions and decisions, has responsibility for all aspects of difficult projects that are broad in nature and require originality and ingenuity.
• Reports to Director of Solution and Design
Credentials
Requirements:
• Minimum one (1) year prior related experience.
• Experience with the following technologies
• Routing
• Switching L2/L3
• Wireless (WLAN, Point to Point)
• Centralized Cloud Management
• Technical documentation, business analysis and/or technical writing experience a plus
• Work history of consultative sales and/or partner-facing roles
• Proven ability to gather and understand customer requirements, business objectives, and success criteria as part of the discovery process. Take those outputs and build a holistic solution to meet that customer’s business needs.
Preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Relevant recent Network certifications (Aruba, Cisco, Extreme, etc.)
• Experience in distribution or working for a partner/reseller
Physical Requirements
• May require sitting at computer for long periods of time.
• Minimal lifting may be required.
• An essential function for this position, based on business necessity, is that the employee must be physically in attendance at his/her workstation at the designated company office location during the normal business hours designated for the position.
• Ability to travel 10% of the time
Compensation
Compensation Range: $50,000-$60,000
Actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on a number of variables including work experience, education and skills/ achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer. This position is not eligible for a variable pay component as part of the hiring range.
