Swedish Match North America LLC, develops, manufactures, and sells quality products with market leading brands such as ZYN nicotine pouches and other smokeless tobacco products. We are one of the fastest growing consumer-packaged goods (CPG) producers and ZYN is the number one selling nicotine pouch in the US. In order to continually promote and create innovative products that support our vision we are currently seeking a Product Development Engineer for our Owensboro, KY facility.
Main Responsibilities Include:
• Utilize scientific, mathematical, and engineering principles to solve problems and improve processes.
• Prioritize and perform research on technical problems with minimal guidance.
• Plan, implement, and document experiments and physical analysis assignments.
• Analyze experimental data to determine trends and develop solutions.
• Provide technical assistance to staff, contractors, vendors, government officials in the application and interpretation of standards related to products and processes.
• Keep abreast of general work issues, process trends, and identify opportunities for improvement of established programs.
• Perform all the conventional aspects of engineering in the functional areas of responsibility and product disciplines involved.
• Maintain broad knowledge of engineering disciplines.
• Identify, research, and resolve system malfunctions and operational problems.
• Take responsibility for tasks and prioritize activities.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, OSHA, and GMP regulations to include health, safety, and welfare as appropriate.
• Develops and documents physical testing for new and existing products.
• Define and validate specifications for packaging materials and packaging designs.
• Review regulatory compliance of raw materials.
• Rationalizes raw materials to minimize SKU’s and processing needs.
New and Improved Products Responsibilities:
• Serve as project manager and coordinate/schedule team activities.
• Ensure project implementation is within defined budget and time-frames.
• Validate products/machinery/processes and prepare validation reports.
• Validate primary/secondary/tertiary raw materials and suppliers and prepare validation reports.
• Serve as team expert in project management software.
• Solicit input of perceived/actual needs/ideas for developing new and improved products.
• Define funding needs.
• Regularly review category consumer needs and benchmark competitive products and activities.
• Serve as category problem solving expert in the investigation of consumer complaints and processing defects.
• Provide information in a timely manner.
• Define and implement procedures which improve effectiveness and productivity.
• Build cooperative relationships with raw material or equipment vendors.
• Define equipment needs for new and improved products or processes.
• Define and develop product processes and parameters.
• Identify, quantify and implement cost reduction opportunities.
• Interface with other Swedish Match personnel on joint development projects.
• Interpret internal and external consumer feedback, and implement, coordinate, schedule product launch teams.
Education: Degree in Chemical Engineering, Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum 2 years working in a scientific discipline or equivalent competency.
Skill: Must possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Must be creative, judicious and self-directed. Must be able to grasp new concepts quickly and efficiently.
Specialized Knowledge: Team Leading, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Problem Solving, Project Management, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Design of Experiment are required. Tobacco Marketplace & Regulatory Issues, Statistics, Tobacco Chemistry, Tobacco Products & Processing, Intellectual Propertied/Patent Knowledge, Microsoft AX, LIMS, SOE, Tableau, and Minitab desirable.
Other: Willingness to travel as well as possibly train short term at the European Division.
