Marketing and Communications Manager
Position Summary:
The Marketing and Communications Manager will oversee the daily operations of the organization's marketing and communications efforts, ensuring that messaging is consistent and aligned with organizational goals. This role involves managing both online and offline communication platforms, creating content for various channels, supporting grant writing, and overseeing the production of marketing materials. The ideal candidate will help craft narratives that inspire and engage stakeholders, and drive awareness of the organization's mission and programs.
Reporting Relationships:
The Marketing and Communications Manager reports to the Director of Development Operations.
Key Relationships:
This position will work closely with colleagues in development, program, and operations teams, collaborating regularly to achieve organizational goals.
Essential Job Functions:
• Content Creation: Develop compelling content for websites, social media, print materials, grant applications, and donor communications. Work with the development team to plan and execute a monthly content calendar.
• Editing and Proofreading: Edit and format documents such as program reports, presentations, and donor materials to ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy, following established style guidelines.
• Direct Response Management: Oversee the creation and approval of direct response materials. Manage relationships with external agencies and ensure the timely payment of invoices.
• Graphic Design: Design print and digital marketing materials, including brochures, donor communications, graphics, and charts. Use Adobe Creative Suite to create high-quality visuals and work with freelance designers for more complex projects.
• Website Management: Collaborate with the development team to keep the organization's websites updated with fresh content, news, and stories. Monitor website performance using tools like Google Analytics and maintain hosting and domain registrations.
• Social Media Management: Help maintain the organization's social media presence by creating and curating content, engaging with followers, and analyzing performance to optimize engagement.
• Print Production: Manage the production of printed materials, ensuring quality control and maintaining an inventory of marketing collateral.
• Resource Management: Ensure a regular flow of resources, such as photos, stories, and videos, to support marketing initiatives. Work closely with direct response vendors to provide accurate materials for fundraising efforts.
• Branding and Messaging: Ensure all communications are aligned with the organization's brand guidelines and messaging standards.
• Strategy and Reporting: Assist in the development of communication strategies for social media, websites, and marketing campaigns. Provide reports on the effectiveness of communication activities.
• Media Relations: Support media outreach efforts, including pitching stories, drafting press releases, and organizing media events.
• Videography Support: Collaborate with the development team on video projects, including writing scripts and providing creative input.
• Speech Writing: Assist with the development of speeches and talking points for key stakeholders within the organization.
• Research: Conduct research to support marketing and communication initiatives, including gathering information on the organization’s global programs.
• Budget Management: Develop and manage the communications and print production budgets, ensuring all costs are accurately tracked and within scope.

Qualifications & Skills:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
• Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing, communications, or fundraising, preferably in a non-profit context.
• Writing and Design Skills: Proven ability to write compelling, clear, and persuasive content. Proficient in graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Digital and Social Media Expertise: Experience managing websites, social media accounts, and email marketing platforms. Familiarity with WordPress, HTML, Google Analytics, and top social media channels (Facebook, Instagram).
• Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to distill complex information into digestible content.
• Project Management: Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Adobe Creative Suite.
