About The Camp
Camp Pennyroyal is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. Located 15 miles south of Owensboro, KY, this 180-acre camp includes an 8-acre lake, three year-round buildings, platform tents, screened cabins, and primitive camping areas. Pennyroyal is a variety of traditional camp activities including canoeing, kayaking, standup paddle boarding as well as archery and a low/ high ropes course. Our program hosts Girl Scouts entering grades 4 through 12 with up to 70 campers per session. Programs are run by paid camp staff and Girl Scout volunteers.
About The Role
Right now, the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana is looking for a full-time Health Supervisor that will help ensure the ultimate summer camp experience for our campers and staff. This role will manage the operation and implementation of health-related services. This position is responsible for providing daily, on-call, and weekly health center services for all people, provide first aid, mental, emotional, and social health treatment at camp. A key function of this role will be medication management for campers. Compensation
The salary for the Health Supervisor (Camp Pennyroyal) position is $5,350 for the entire seasonal contract.
Staff training will be held May 27 - June 6, with additional training and set-up time for some staff from May 23 - May 25.
Key Responsibilities
• Accountable for the weekly and daily health screening procedures and results of campers.
• Collect, administer, and document camper/staff medication under restricted access.
• Communicate and advise staff on camper accommodations to provide for special medical/health/wellness considerations.
• Utilize the digital health database (CampDoc) to record health summaries, care notes, and medications administered and to communicate to caregivers or staff when appropriate.
• Prepare and restock first aid kits and supplies each session.
• Responsible for the cleanliness, organization, care, maintenance, and inventory of the health center & medication delivery room.
• Provide support in the routine and emergency health procedures in consultation with the executive camp director and in keeping with established guidelines.
• Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
• Non-traditional work hours are expected. When campers are on site, the Health Supervisor is on duty. The Health Supervisor typically has intermittent down time between health center hours and medication administration and guaranteed time off between camp sessions.
• The Health Supervisor typically sleeps in or near the Health Center, with air conditioning, and restrooms. The Health Supervisor may sleep near other staff or campers. Individuals sleeping in the Health Center overnight will be your responsibility.
• Includes both infirmary and outdoor environments that involve daily exposure to various weather conditions, plants, and animals.
• Walk/hike several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain. Camp Pennyroyal hosts low and high ropes courses.
Minimum Job Requirements
EDUCATION
• Minimum of a Kentucky State licensed certified nursing assistant (CNA), EMT, or equivalent education/training.
• Enrolled and have completed at least two semesters in an accredited nursing, medical or helping profession program.
• Already be certified or willing to become certified in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, & AED or American Heart BLS with AED and American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid.
Experience
• 1 year of working in childcare, youth program, or camp.
• 1 year of health care related experience.
• Minimum of 4 months directly working with crisis management.
• Experience in pediatrics or first aid (preferably in a camp or school setting).
Specific Skills And Requirements
• 21+ years of age
• Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment
• Strong communication, written, and public speaking skills
• Adaptable and flexible within a fast-paced working environment
• Organized and remain consistent in quality of work and maintaining deadlines
• Able to pull up to an overview of the entire goal and problem solve accordingly
• Must have valid driver's license with a safe driving record meeting company standards
• Working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Have a high level of integrity while supervising children
• Maintain excellency in customer service throughout the summer
POSITION COMPETENCIES
• Comfortable with Microsoft Suites, CampDoc, and operating a computer
• Access to reliable transportation
• Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment
• Complete a background check and provide other forms and details
• Strictly adheres to confidentiality policies when addressing health needs
• Comfort and competency while driving a motorized vehicle
