This involves hand eye coordination.Individual must have competency working with viruses and blood borne pathogens.Work environmentIndividuals in this position are directly exposed to harmful chemicals and reagents.Individuals in this position work in an environment with potentially wet or slippery floors.Individuals in this position work above their head on a ladder or stepstool, and with their arms extended above them.Individuals in this position work with razor blades and other sharp objects.Individuals in this position are exposed to human samples, blood borne pathogens and recombinant viruses.Individual works with their hands while wearing surgical style nitrile gloves.Individuals in this position work on multiple floors and travel from one floor to the next multiple times throughout the day.Individual will utilize a computer for various tasks. Physical demandsIndividuals must be able to raise and lower water filled tanks weighing 5 lbs. above head without spilling water or fish housed in them, often while standing on a 3-step ladder.Must be able to ascend and descend a 3-step ladder while holding water filled fish tanks without spilling.Individuals must be able to carry 5-liter buckets of water and pour water into tanks.Must be able to navigate in work spaces (including tight and confined spaces in aquaculture facility) and maneuver in different positions to accomplish tasks, without disturbing tanks housed in those spaces.Individuals must be able to withstand prolonged periods (60-120 minutes) of standing, bending and lifting.Individuals must be able to sustain prolonged periods (30-90 minutes) of repetitive arm and hand movement that involve fine motor control of the hand and fingers (e.g. pipetting).Individual must be able to hold small tubes with gloved hands, open caps on small tubes with one hand while pipetting small volumes with the other hand.Individual must be able to write legibly on small tubes (0.5 inch) and caps (0.25 inch) and bottles.Individual must be able to move bulky boxes weighing anywhere from 5 lbs-25 lbs. that contain sensitive or fragile materials.Individuals must be able to work in warm environments (up to 82°F) for long periods and cold environments, including -80°C freezers.Individual needs to work in a laminar flow hood, with arms extended in front of them through a glass sash.Travel requiredNoneRequired education and experienceIndividuals must have a bachelor’s degree or higher, with experience in a scientific research laboratoryKnowledge of molecular and microbiological techniques Knowledge of sterile technique, including working with cultured cells or bacteriaBasic understanding of databases and Office 365-based computer applicationsPreferred education and experience Experience working with zebrafishOther dutiesThe individual in this position will support all core activities of the Research Division.
