OVERVIEW: The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of procedures according to the Organization's policies to meet the needs of the patient and physician. The surgical scheduler will also register patients including collecting patient copayments, answer telephone and in-person patient inquiries, and perform all basic administrative office functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Organization.
• Supports and performs according to approved policies and procedures.
• Participates as a team member in support of the total perioperative process.
• Considers patient rights in performing duties and establishing Facility policies.
• Contributes to the progress and development of the approved QAPI Program.
• Supports risk management and participates in programs directed to patient and staff safety.
• Contributes to the quality management process; identifies role and contributions upon request.
• Objectively evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to performance and quality of care.
• Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
• Interactions are respectful and courteous.
• Communicates effectively and professionally using a translator when necessary.
• Documents that information received from the patient is disseminated to the appropriate departments.
• Monitors progress of scheduled procedures and location of patients and physicians.
• Maintains and promotes professional competence through continuing education and other learning experiences.

• Researches and submits pertinent articles for review at staff meetings.

• Coordinates surgical preoperative appointments with clinical preoperative activities.
• Maintains schedule according to the Organization's policy, physician's time, and staffing requirements.
• Coordinates schedule assessing time and equipment availability; identifies conflicts and adjusts schedules as needed.
• Prepares appointment and surgery schedules for supervisor's review.
• Daily communication to physician scheduler of open block time and availability.
• Continuing education to physician schedulers on Amkail Link (online scheduling portal).
• Accurately prepares the schedule for timely distribution.
• Facilitates daily completion of the surgery schedule.
• Inputs patient registration information into computer system.
• Notifies Business Office Coordinator of deficits in patient information.
• Distributes schedules to appropriate areas so that required staff and supplies are available.
• Notifies designated personnel of schedule changes according to the Organization's policy.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and TRAINING:
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment.
