Engagement Specialist Department: Public Relations Reports To: Director of Communications JOB SUMMARY The Engagement Specialist assists in the development and coordination of internal and external community engagement and communications programs for Greenville Water. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required and assigned. External Engagement Coordinates Public Relations department activities including public affairs reports, publications and press kits. Engages face-to-face with customers, such as planning and assisting with focus groups, outreach and community educational or environmental events. Assists in measurement of customer engagement. Organizes opportunities for community members to learn more about our industry through various avenues, including contests that involve writing and creativity. Coordinates the mailings, judging, collection and award ceremonies. Coordinates facility tours and arranges speakers for on-site presentations. Establishes and maintains active (even virtual) speakers' bureau. Maintains adequate inventory of appropriate materials for tours and events. Coordinates set-up and logistics for external events such as groundbreakings. Administers the Community Giving program. Maintains the calendars and coordinates community rentals. Tracks purchases for printing, special events, newspaper ads and publishing projects. Coordinates purchases and distribution of GW promotional items. Provides technical writing support for internal publications. In tandem with the Graphic Designer, drafts and publishes internal newsletter under direction of the Director of Communications. Monitors and manages GW social media presence. Develops and maintains positive relationships with local media and government. Schedules media outreach. Collaborates to provide information to support best practices for community information, particularly during an emergency. Performs daily media search for GW references. Coordinates response to media inquiries in the absence of the Director of Communications. Receives, acknowledges and tracks recognitions and awards received by Greenville Water. Internal Engagement Works closely with Human Resources and Safety to expand internal engagement and culture awareness by assisting in coordinating, planning, scheduling and execution of Team Member events. Helps recruit volunteers for assisting with Team Member events. Facilitates and assists with key interdepartmental initiatives. Serves as a member of the Service Excellence Team (SET). Serves as coordinator for on-site community engagement with non-profit organizations. Works with Human Resources to enhance our Volunteer Time Off Program, "Greenville Water Cares", through scheduling, staffing and internal advertising. Provides support for developing and implementing internal targeted marketing programs and campaigns. Serves as initial contact for career/employment fairs and coordinates staffing and collateral tailored to the event. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field, supplemented by three (3) years of public relations experience with a proven track record in a fast-paced environment in public information, media relations, or corporate communications is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Familiarity with media platforms, social media trends, and digital communication tools for content creation and management. Knowledge of government processes and community engagement strategies. Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license.
