Job Status: Full Time Amount of Travel Required: 5%
Positions Supervised: None
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; occasional weekends or after-hours responsibilities.
Position Summary
• The Orientation Instructor is responsible for the introduction and facilitation of a new driver on-boarding to J&R Schugel Trucking, Inc.
Essential Functions
• Directing a weekly orientation program for new drivers.
• Instruction on safety policy and procedures for J&R Schugel Trucking, Inc.
• Scheduling, managing, and ensuring 100% completion of online modules required to pass orientation and countersign documents.
• Verify and scan all documentation pertinent to their employment (i.e. driver’s license, med card, etc.).
• Teaching of Smith System.
• GeoTab and Transflo training.
• Schedule pre-employment drug screens and DOT regulated physicals.
• Order driver’s lunches daily, keep track of receipts and send to Safety Director for auditing and payment.
• Conducts road tests for new hires, training on pre and post trip inspections and hands-on training for coupling and uncoupling a trailer.
• Hands-on training for reefer units, temp settings, etc.
• Daily communication with safety and HR team to ensure 100% compliance with company, state, and federal hiring requirements.
• Conducts new hire interview, escalates concerns to VP of Risk Management.
• May have to assist other terminals with orientation process or be back-up to vision, mission, values portion of orientation.
• Responsible for training new orientation members.
• Evaluates if driver is a good fit, meets qualifications and can safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
• Recommends termination to leadership executives if driver fails a portion of the orientation process.
• Lytx coach for drivers.
• Ensure drivers have a great experience/first impression, welcome packets, a maintained orientation van, clean classroom, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor.
Position Qualifications
Education
• Some college coursework completed or prior teaching experience.
Experience
• One or two years of transportation industry experience.
Skills & Abilities
• Computer Skills
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• AS400 and Tenstreet experience desired.
• Knowledge of truck telematics (i.e. Qualcomm or GeoTab).
• Other Requirements
• Ability to type a minimum of 35 wpm.
• Able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
• Familiar with or willing to become familiar with DOT regulations and rules as it pertains to the qualifications of driving a truck for the company.

• Class A CDL license is beneficial.
