Description: Department: Operations Job Status: Full Time Positions Supervised: OTR Truck Drivers (40-50) Work Schedule: Monday – Friday with rotating Saturday schedule. Reports To: VP of Operations Amount of Travel Required: None POSITION SUMMARY A Fleet Manager is responsible for the supervision of over the road (OTR) truck drivers. Plans, directs, and coordinates the on-time delivery / pick-up of customer freight safely and legally. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Manages activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking a board of 40-50 truck drivers to ensure on-time delivery / pick-up of customer freight. Supervises truck drivers to include motivation, coaching, performance management / counseling, discipline, employee reviews, and recommends termination to the VP of Operations. Plans, organizes, and manages the work of truck drivers to ensure the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements (in compliance with FMCSR, DOT, and Company standards). Troubleshoots when loads are in jeopardy of being late to ensure on-time delivery and pick up of customer freight. Directs investigations to verify and resolve driver, customer, or shipper complaints. Meets Company goals for assigned fleet: revenue per truck, revenue per mile, mpg, idle time, retention, and safety (CSA score). Works diligently to retain drivers and improve driver morale by building a good working relationship with each driver. Works with VP of Operations and other Fleet Managers to implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for the fleet. Promotes safe work activities by conducting safety audits of their fleet, monitoring their fleet’s individual CSA scores, including hours of service, meeting with individual drivers, and attending company safety meetings. Schedules training or re-training for drivers when needed. Ensures drivers get the miles they need and arrive home when “home-time” is due. Ensures drivers turn in required paperwork (proofs of delivery, bills of lading) and report OS&D in a timely fashion. Coordinates routine equipment maintenance (PM’s) and breakdowns with the Maintenance Department. Ensures drivers understand the payroll process and complete the required paperwork for payroll. Assists and covers for other Fleet Managers when they are absent. Assists in the trailer management. Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Associate degree preferred. Experience One or more years’ experience in the trucking industry. One or more years’ supervisory experience. SKILLS & ABILITIES Computer Skills Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. AS400, Innovative software, and Qualcomm/GeoTab experience preferred. Requirements: POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Other Requirements Ability to type a minimum of 35 wpm. Able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently. Good written and verbal communications skills as most supervision is done over truck telematics and phone. Solid math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Organizational skills with high attention to detail. U.S. geography knowledge. High levels of typing required. Willing to learn and understand Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and abide by them fully.
Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 a year
