Description Performs entry level to journey-level work in the maintenance, repair and installation of commercial plumbing equipment and control. Journeyman-level workers may provide guidance to lesser experienced team members on specific projects.
This position offers a $2,000 Hiring Bonus!
Hiring Bonus to be paid as follows: $1,000 after 30 days of employment, $1,000 after 6 months of employment. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses.
Essential Functions • Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing systems and components. Assembles and installs valves, fittings, pipe, fixtures and other equipment for assigned areas.
• Uses a variety of tools and specialized equipment.
• Maintains and repairs general plumbing components to include toilets, urinals, faucets, hose bibs, and drains including drainage and storm water systems, fire station interceptor drains and city-owned drinking fountains.
• Installs, repairs, or replaces domestic hot and cold-water lines.
• Repairs and replaces steam to hot water exchangers for major building heating systems and pools.
• Repairs and replaces domestic high efficiency hot water heat pumps, chilled water pumps, sump pumps, and sewage pumps.
• Installs, tests, and repairs all sizes of backflow prevention devices.
• Oversees work of major new installations and associated projects to ensure compliance with city code and best practices.
• Interprets and applies mechanical and structural blueprints to plan plumbing repairs and modifications.
• Maintains accurate logs, records, inventory, service requests, invoices and financial records.
• Performs maintenance and repairs in other trades such as electrical, plumbing and carpentry as needed.
• Performs a variety of tasks, including the maintenance and repair of city-owned structures and facilities.
• Performs preventive maintenance program duties.
• Works and coordinates with contractor's plans and specifications; reads and performs duties from blueprints.
• Obtains price quotes for materials.
• May respond to emergency service requests which occur outside normal City business hours.
• Ensures installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate city codes, installation requirements, manufacturer's specifications, environmental protection requirements, OSHA/safety requirements and relevant legislation.
• Observes and complies with all safety requirements in the performance of duties.
• Drives assigned city vehicle to other work sites, meetings, etc.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors Two (2) years of trade school, or college level course work in , plumbing and, three (3) years of work experience commercial plumbing maintenance, repair and installation/ Professional plumbing certification is preferred.
Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.
Knowledge of :
Principles and practices of one or more skilled trades in the maintenance/construction trades field OSHA safety regulations Federal, state and county codes and regulations specific to construction and maintenance Plumbing maintenance and repair Tools associated with plumbing installation, maintenance and repair, including but not limited to torches, wrenches, snakes and augers
Ability to :
Respond to emergency service needs at any time Diagnose problems and troubleshoot or make recommendations
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring and drawings Work independently in the absence of supervision Understand and follow oral and written directions Communicate clearly and concisely

Special Requirements
• A valid Arizona driver's license at time of application.
• Subject to call back after normal shift hours, weekends.
• May be subject to standby duty requirements.
• Some positions will require special journey level certification and/or endorsement, required by the EPA (environmental protection act) for the recovery of cfc's (chlorofluorocarbon) in air conditioning systems.
• This position is classified as safety-sensitive which requires candidates to successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment. They will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy. A post-offer physical assessment is required. The City of Glendale will incur the cost of all required testing.
