Position Summary
This incumbent will be responsible for the daily operations of high profile production systems providing central IT services to the Georgia Center and other Public Service and Outreach division departments.
Typical responsibilities include, but not limited to:
• Administration of virtual server and desktop environment, including management and provisioning of storage and virtual networking.
• Server installation, configuration, patching, and upgrading.
• Monitoring server availability and performance.
• Performing emergency troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Performing emergency troubleshooting and problem resolution, including after hours response as part of a team on call 24O7O365.
• Network administration of Ethernet wired and wireless technologies, firewall/router management.
• End user desktop support.
• Develop standards and recommendations for critical functions and services, such as system configuration and backup & recovery.
• Develop and maintain written documentation to support the maintenance of production quality services.
• Working as part of a team without close supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Hardware experience: x86/x64 desktop and server hardware, Network Attached Storage/Storage Area Network hardware, Firewall/ VPN /Router experience, Ethernet Wired/Wireless hardware administration, computer security camera systems, environmental monitoring controls, Point of Sale hardware, Digital Signage AV hardware.
Software experience: Apple OS X, Sonicwall SonicOS, HP Procurve OS, Microsoft Windows Server/Desktop OS, VMware ESXi/vCenter, VMware Horizon Suite for VDI , Unidesk Management software, desktop management software tools (remote control, antivirus, patch management, etc.)

Virtualization and Storage Administration -
a. Administration of a VMware vCenter server cluster of approximately 65 servers (Windows and Linux appliances). Management of a VMware Horizon View Virtual Desktop Infrastructure of approximately 175 Windows 7 desktops. Software management using Unidesk software.
b. Administration of high capacity storage area networks (Dell Compellent) and data backups using Veeam Backup and Replication along with Code 42 Crashplan backup software.
c. Administer hypervisor management and administrative tools for virtual environments (monitoring, patching, antivirus, etc.)

Microsoft Server Administration -
1. Administers Windows systems that provide centralized IT services to the Georgia Center and other Public Service and Outreach division departments.
a. Responsible for Windows systems administration, including installation of new Windows-based servers (virtual and physical), patches, specialized software, and built-in server roles and accounts.
b. Plan, deploy, and contribute recommendations surrounding Windows server technologies in a highly complex environment, giving special attention to security issues. Services include but are not limited to: Active Directory, DNS , DHCP , Group Policy, user management, DFS , and Microsoft Deployment Services.
c. Develop standards and recommendations for critical functions and services such as system configuration and automated tasks.
d. Collaborate with other team member on issues and projects.
e. Gives attention to security issues by discussing best practices with regard to system security. Responds as needed to threats and incidents.
2. General Systems Administration Responsibilities -
a. Troubleshoot hardware/software problems. Responds as needed to security threats and incidents.
b. Share responsibility for emergency response and system maintenance on a 24O7 rotating on-call schedule.
c. Engage in proactive monitoring and solutions to prevent system failures.
d. Executes recovery operations when necessary.
e. Research, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues.
3. Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities -
a. Writes and maintains documentation to assist in the setup, administration, and troubleshooting of managed systems by team of coworkers with varying skill levels.
b. Works with others to document system policies and procedures.
c. Participate in meetings relevant to this position and team across campus.

End User Desktop Support -
a. Respond to requests for service and engage in proactive computer support for users as assigned.
b. Provide all aspects of support for desktop and laptop computers (Windows and Mac) including security, networking, peripherals, hardware, and software.
c. Develop and deploy desktop computer images.
d. Provide support as needed for technology enhanced classrooms, computer labs, and videoconferencing.
e. Use a ticketing system to manage his/her time and track requests; this position will participate in a department-level helpdesk.
f. Develop documentation, presentations, and training materials for clients and other audiences. Provide training on an as needed basis.
g. Consult with faculty and staff and recommend appropriate IT solutions; educate clients about information security risks and keep them informed about policies and practices in IT.
