Advanced Center for Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Job Description: Medical Assistant Title Medical Assistant Main function The Medical Assistant performs many administrative duties, including answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records. MA will also perform basic clinical tasks, such as administering medications, vital sign measurement, phlebotomy, and assisting with physical examinations and patient education Duties and responsibilities Greet patients, vendors and guests in a pleasant, friendly and professional manner. Performs patient check-in and check-out procedures. Responsive to patient requests and concerns. Verify that insurance information is accurate for each visit. Scan insurance cards and/or dates current copy of insurance card. Collect co-pays, co-insurance and/or previous patient balances as indicated. Review patient information forms for adequacy and accuracy; update in computer. Scan documents into electronic medical record as appropriate. Maintain cashiering process; print receipts and balance receipts on a daily basis. Schedule follow-up office visits. Answer incoming telephone calls and direct them to the appropriate staff member. Obtain and enter demographic information for new patients and update established patients records according to protocol. Obtain and/or confirm necessary patient authorizations and referrals. Print add-on fee slips as needed. Review appointment list for missing charts and communicate with Medical Records regarding charts that are needed. Compliance with HIPAA and OSHA Perform other duties as requested by Manager, Clinical Director or Physician. Education Required High school diploma or GED certificate Basic office skills including data entry Good communication skills and ability to deal with the public in a professional, courteous manner. Preferred No experience is required, but it is preferred.
