Job Overview The New Ulm Journal, a daily newspaper in south central Minnesota, has an immediate opening for a full-time reporter. We are seeking a person who thrives in covering the happenings in our unique and entertaining community and telling the story of the people that live and work here. If you have previous experience reporting that is great but we are willing to train someone who has solid writing and grammar skills and an attention to detail. Being a reporter means meeting new people and telling the unique story of the happenings that make their community a compelling place to work and live. Responsibilities Conduct thorough research on assigned topics to gather accurate information and insights. Take photos as needed. Camera will be provided. Edit and proofread content for clarity, grammar, and adherence to AP style guidelines. Collaborate with the editorial team to develop story ideas Manage social media accounts by posting updates, engaging with followers, and promoting stories. Fact-check information to ensure accuracy before publication. Requirements Proven experience in journalism or a related field is preferred though recent graduates are encouraged to apply. Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt style for different audiences and platforms. Strong proofreading abilities with attention to detail in grammar and punctuation. Valid driver's license. Ability to relocate to the New Ulm, MN area or commute to New Ulm daily from where you live.
