Mechanical Engineer Senior - R&D Minn Kota - On site We seek a passionate and creative R&D Engineer to join our dynamic team. This individual will be an integral part of the R&D group, focusing primarily on the early stages of new product development and investigating new technologies for application in marine products. This role involves building working prototypes of innovative solutions to complex design challenges. Team members are also responsible for assessing the feasibility of new technologies and their integration into our existing products. We seek an innovative R&D Engineer willing to take calculated risks and explore new approaches to problem-solving. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Collaborate with Product Line Management to develop preliminary product specifications. Evaluate and integrate new technologies relevant to the marine industry. Support the design, analysis, and preliminary validation of new product concepts for review with Product Line Management. Assess and determine the best approaches to solve problems, ensuring the reliability of results. Exercise creativity and independent judgment in solving various technical problems. Actively participate in detailed design reviews with peer engineers. Document and communicate design ideas effectively to the commercialization team. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES None EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (MSME), Engineering Technology (BSET) or equivalent. Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering within consumer product design or R&D. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD systems, with productive skill sets to meet all facets of design. Working knowledge of CREO and ANSYS FEA is preferred. Extensive knowledge of material properties, with primary expertise in plastic injection molding, die-casting, aluminum extrusion and sheet metal fabrication processes. Familiarity with applicable prototyping techniques and their limitations. Advanced skills in generating, designing, and executing concepts into manufacturable designs. Strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems. Design and selection of materials and coatings for corrosive environments. Ideation of innovative geartrain and complex mechanisms into cost-effective solutions. Strong background in waterproof design methodologies. Some knowledge of sizing and selection of DC motors.
