The Laboratory Technician participates in inspecting and testing of products in process and finished goods. Perform physical/mechanical properties testing on resins and cured fiberglass composites. Composites fabrication and preparation for testing. Assist in UV cured CIPP trials. Duties/Responsibilities: Conduct resin viscosity measurements on UV curable resins, documenting accordingly. Record gel test times for polyester and vinyl ester resins Preparing test specimens from cured fiberglass samples using band saws, table saws, routers, and surface grinders with high attention to detail Test prepared specimens by closely following SOPs, using TO Mechanical testers in tensile, flex, shear, and/or compression to measure the modulus (stiffness) and strength. Safely and efficiently operate laboratory equipment in accordance with Company policies, procedures and work instructions Always use appropriate PPE Participation in special projects / test development. Maintain laboratory stockroom, supplies and the inventory of retained samples. Inform management of any abnormal situations which cannot be successfully dealt with. Perform other duties as required. Work in a safe manner always by following the company safety policies and procedures. Perform all paperwork documentation on either computer or hard copy. Education and Experience: GED/High School Diploma. Satisfactorily complete 3 months on-the-job training. Mechanical testing and/or mechanical technology type applications and experience are highly preferred Attention to detail and ability to closely follow testing procedures Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Typical Physical Demands: Ability to perform physically demanding work for 8+ hours a day, including prolonged standing and walking, bending, and twisting. Requires full range of motion including eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Must have the ability to use power tools to cut and prepare cured fiberglass composites for testing. Ability to lift and move up to 60 lbs. on a continuous basis. Must have proficient math and computer skills necessary to document test results accurately. Must be highly structured to maintain an organized workspace and records system and to multitask. Able to wear required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working as required by the job. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday but could include shift work, weekends, evenings and/or holidays - flexibility is required as job duties demand.
