Purpose & Job Related Requirements REPORTS TO: Electrical Supervisor FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt CLASSIFICATION: Personnel System - Requires satisfactory completion of a six month probationary period. PAY GRADE: 114 SAFETY SENSITIVE: Yes; Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance. Purpose of Job The purpose of this job is to assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the electrical systems, equipment and components within unified government buildings. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, installing new wiring, maintaining existing systems, responding to emergencies as needed, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Job Related Requirements Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm; with some on-call weekends and call in on holidays. May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy. Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Vocational or technical diploma in related discipline with one year of electrical experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid driver's license. Criminal background must indicate eligibility for the supervision of inmates. Must obtain security training for the supervision of inmate workers as set forth by the Georgia Department of Corrections Standard Operating Procedures within six months of date of hire or first available opportunity. Essential Duties, Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Installs and/or assists in the installation and repair of electrical systems, equipment and components in government owned buildings. Maintains and/or assists in the maintenance of existing electrical systems, including conducting preventive maintenance on generators and other electrical components. Inspects and /or assists in the inspection and maintenance of security systems, fire alarm systems, communication systems, cables and clocks. Performs electrical tasks such as completing wiring for new construction projects and repairing or installing light fixtures, outlets, and switches in and outside of government buildings. Inspects and/or assists in the inspection of electrical equipment for code compliance, performs preventive maintenance for all equipment, and maintains records of supplies and materials related to the position. Maintains preventive maintenance schedules in assigned buildings and other files and reports on work orders and work assignments. Responds to emergency service requests as need in accordance with the on-call policy/program. Installs and maintains all types of computer cables and computer ends. May be required to supervise inmate crews assigned to electrical projects. Assists in the maintenance of shop facility condition and appearance. Performs other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the Facilities Management Division of the Central Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of Electrician Technician. Knowledge and skill of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools attributable to the electrical trade. Knowledge and ability to diagnose and correct electrical problems. Knowledge of commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical systems, equipment, components and apparatus. Knowledge of electrical codes, blueprints, fixture specifications, and related records, charts, reports and procedures and methods as required in the performance of duties. Knowledge of electrical, gas, plumbing, and building codes and regulations and federal, state and local electrical and building codes. Knowledge of the terminology used within the division and within the electrical trade. Skill in the use and operation of various electrical, and construction tools and equipment. Ability to supervise and train an inmate crew in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical components, equipment, fixtures, and apparatus. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, work crews, and other staff members. Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations. Ability to plan, organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Ability to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the division. Ability to maintain an assortment of records, reports, and information in an effective manner. Supplemental Information (ADA) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including various plumbing and construction equipment and tools. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work. DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things. LANGUAGE ABILITY : Requires ability to read a variety of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical code resources, blueprints, and other records, charts, and reports and informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to prepare daily work sheets, purchase orders, and test reports using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence. INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand complex principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in the absence of management. VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technical or professional languages including electrical and plumbing terminology. NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; utilize determine percentages; interpret graphs. FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with construction tools and mechanical equipment. MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands, fingers, and eyes accurately in using construction tools and mechanical equipment. Requires the ability to lift, bend, push, pull, manipulate equipment/tools and objects as the position necessitates. MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as construction tools and mechanical equipment. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. COLOR DISCRIMINATION: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.
