Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator
Position Summary
Under direct supervision of the Director of Addictive Disease, the Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator engages with potential clients and their families to connect them with identified supports and resources. Central to this role is creating a welcoming environment for engagement with people along the continuum of care, whether they are experiencing chaotic drug use, have managed misuse, are seeking treatment, have co-occurring illness, or identify as living in recovery. This staff is responsible for maintaining and/or improving procedures to track initial and follow-up engagements with people requesting linkage to MH/SUDS treatment resources and to MOUD therapies and tracking outcomes. Case management duties include a broad range of social services, such as initiating referrals, service coordination, skills building, and providing referrals to area resources and/or linkage for intake. This staff assists in dealing with personal and social problems, may participate in treatment team planning, and may perform crisis intervention. This staff may initially provide supportive counseling to potential clients and families and serve as a liaison for ongoing social services. The job will necessitate clinical knowledge including harm reduction principles, trauma informed care, and measures to reduce the risk of overdose death. Additionally, this staff is tasked to increase awareness of Advantage’s mission and work, and to expand our presence and addiction services in outer counties. This staff will promote agency goals and foster and maintain a positive public image with community partners. Regular interface with local resources including Addiction Recovery Support Centers, Recovery Centered Organizations, Opioid Treatment Providers, and Sterile Syringe Programs, as well as state resources for mental health and SUDS recovery. This staff will have the ability to assist in building and navigating new relationships with medical, emergency, and county officials.
• Makes appropriate referrals for internal and external support services.
• Coordinates the scheduling of intake appointments and follow-up engagement meetings in a timely manner to ensure successful linkage.
• Cultivates collaborative, fruitful relationships with potential clients, their families, agency staff, external partners, and community stakeholders, as well as media sources.
• May act as spokesperson for a variety of communications and inquiries related to harm reduction, reducing overdose risk, and medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD).
• Assists with presentations, videos or displays for meetings, conferences, or media interviews.
• Implements protocols for crisis communications and leverages opportunities for rapid response.
• Collaborates with Director of Addictive Disease for agency representation at community and special events, county MH task force meetings, and to cultivate and strengthen relationships with community supporters, and strategically developing marketing materials through the lens of SUD.
• This position will also monitor activities and prepare monthly status reports by county.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards
• Track outreach engagement attempts, referrals, outcomes, of individuals
• Participate in the creation of agency communications strategies, activities, and goals to engage with elected officials and resources across service line
• Assist with monitoring and sharing about county events for our social media promotion and for Advantage participation
• Meet monthly with Director for monitoring budget, processing, and purchase orders
• Participate in building and maintaining excellent relationships with community partners to ensure the most effective collaborations with external organizations
• Develop and effectively maintain a network of appropriate community contacts
• Provide appropriate input in strategy or review sessions/staffings, committees and task forces to facilitate service coordination and communication
• Provide appropriate information and/or input in meetings pertaining to case management and case collaboration
• Organize and attend relevant community meetings within the context of Advantage’s community impact
• Update community organizations and the general public as appropriate with relevant information
• Coordinate education and relevant trainings and events
• Collaborate with internal programs on care coordination
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in related behavioral health field
• 1 - 2 years experience with non-profits
• 1 - 2 years of experience with populations who misuse opioids and other drugs
• Strong knowledge of Harm Reduction practices
• Strong communication skills and organizational skills
• Ability to lead strategic meetings and record minutes and activities
• Working knowledge of available internal and external community resources
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products to include Word, Outlook, Excel
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in behavioral health field
• Three-five years working experience in a behavioral health discipline in a community mental health provider setting
• Working knowledge of MOUD
• Working knowledge of Advantage programs including BHCC, Outpatient and Residential SUDS programs, Clinic Operations and Access, Assessments and Requirements for AD Intakes, Discharge Processes is preferred
• Experience in budget management and monthly reporting
