GENERAL SUMMARY: STRIDE is an interactive program that provides lessons on leadership, character development, healthy choices, goal-setting and cooperation, all within the framework of a fun fitness & running plan. Participants (boys in 3rd-6th grades) will have lessons twice per week for 10 weeks, and complete the program by running in a 5K event. POSITION SUMMARY: Within this position lies the responsibility to facilitate the STRIDE curriculum to program participants. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Lead interactive program that provides lessons on leadership, character development, healthy choices, goal-setting, and cooperation. Framework revolves around physical fitness and a running plan. 2. Serving as a role model and mentor volunteer coaches and program participants. 3. Leading participants in proper stretching and running form, hydration and sports nutrition. 4. Interacting and communicating with parents of program participants. 5. Attends and participates in the end of season 5K. QUALIFICATIONS: Never convicted or accused of any child abuse include but not limed to sexual abuse. High school graduate or equivalent; must be 18 years of age or older. Prior experience with coaching, sports, or youth activities. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 60 days of hire (YMCA provided). Excellent interpersonal communication and mediation skills. Ability and willingness to work with people of diverse populations. Demonstrated commitment to working with school age children in a recreational setting. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills. Expected to follow the YMCA code of conduct and employee handbook. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of the position. Ability to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs). Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Calmly and effectively react in an emergency situation as well as work in a noisy, busy environment.
Salary: $31.2K - $39.6K a year
