This position reports to R&D Systems Manager
Your role and responsibilities As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities. The work model for the role is onsite in one of the following locations, Fort Smith, Arkansas, Raleigh, North Carolina or Athens, Georgia. Please note that no relocation assistance or stipend will be offered for this position. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the office locations listed above. Candidates are expected to manage their own commuting arrangements. You will be mainly accountable for: •   Contributes to successful results in design and implementation of highly reusable solutions. Maintains existing software solutions for engineering processes, including their supported frameworks. •   Provides high level assistance in design, development, test, and enhancement of software solutions for engineering. Acts as an independent and reliable contributor with limited supervision. •   Implements modern AI and Generative AI for practical applications. •   Performs data pre-processing for supervised learning. •   Has a working knowledge in using developer tools such as PyCharm, Visual Studio and SQL Server. •   Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot engineering applications using logging and/or debuggers. •   Fosters strong and effective relationships with R&D and Engineering teams by sharing knowledge and supports colleagues in applying IT to ensure timely and high-quality results. •   Stays conversant with large language models (LMM) developments such as Llama, Phi, etc. •   Designs and implements algorithms for training and adjusting generative models on large data sets. •   Generates high-quality synthetic data with prompt engineering and state-of-the-art techniques for domain specific use. Ideally, the candidate would be available for part-time employment from January 2025 to April 2025, with the possibility of extending to full-time employment.
Qualifications for the role • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master’s degree program in computer science, engineering, physics, or related field, within the United States.
• Intern must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions
• Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
• Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without compromising quality
• Collaborate with team members to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress

This position is expected to pay between $20 - $34 per hour.
