Main function A Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant is licensed to assist in the use of goal-directed activities with individuals who are limited by physical limitations due to injury or illness, psychiatric and emotional disorders, developmental or learning disabilities, poverty and cultural differences or the aging process, in order to maximize independence, prevent disability and maintain health. Duties and responsibilities - Treat patients by using therapeutic and self-care activities designed to improve function under the direction of the occupational therapist (OTR-L) - Monitor a patient's activities to make sure they are performing them correctly and to offer encouragement - Contribute to meetings and case conferences to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care plans for patients - Document patient’s weekly progress in appropriate records - Maintain the office treatment areas, equipment, and supply inventory - Instruct patients, their families and any other caregivers in skills and techniques of the patient's treatment program, under supervision of the Occupational Therapist Qualifications- Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities - Proficient in the use of documentation and scheduling software - Proficient in the use of email and Microsoft Word - Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within and across teams and disciplines. - Skilled in written and verbal communication - Demonstrate basic keyboarding and computer skills Requirements Required - Associate degree from an occupational therapy assistant program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) - Current license through Kentucky Board of Licensure for Occupational Therapy Preferred - One year of experience in outpatient setting Job quality requirements - Accuracy - Attention to detail - Timeliness - Organization - Little supervision needed to accomplish task - Ability to multi-task Dependability - Attendance - Punctuality - Ability to follow instructions - Ability to meet deadlines - Ability to work well with team Physical/mental requirements - Must be able to speak, hear, see, stoop, lift, bend, reach, kneel, squat, push and pull. - Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. - Ability to input data intermittently up to eight hours a day - Ability to cope with occasional stress from workload - Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, copy machine, writing instruments, pc and fax Working conditions(environmental) - N/A Reports to Director of Therapy Services Classification - Non-exempt. Generally non-exempt employees work 40 hours per week.
