Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Programs, the Sports Director develops, plans, organizes, implements, supervises, and evaluates all youth, teen, and adult sports programs, staff development, and site maintenance. The Sports Director oversees the management of programs, facilities, volunteer and staff development, financial development, and collaborations with the community agencies.
Essential Functions
• Develop, manage, and monitor the Sports Program operating budget and meet or exceed budget targets.
• Coordinate the development and management of sports programs to meet the community's needs.
• Position the YMCA as a leader in community programs through the following strategies: enabling and empowering the participants, public/private partnerships, and the development of a strong and stable volunteer base.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with school administrators, counselors, teachers, parents, students, and other community service providers.
• Provide training and support to all program staff and volunteers, as well as providing direct services.
• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
• Coordinates maintenance of equipment and evaluation of program facilities.
• Coordinate program development, including recruitment, recapture, retention, team building, training, evaluation, recognition, termination, etc.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Salina Family YMCA.
• Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations, including knowledge of emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment.
• Regular and timely adherence to respective schedules/meetings.
• Help identify prospects and/or solicit monetary and other donations for the Annual Campaign or other fundraising or community events.
• Actively participate in staff leadership activities, committee meetings, etc.
• Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and demonstrating professional conduct.
• Responds to challenges with possible solutions promptly.
• All other duties as requested.
Qualifications
• College degree in Sports Management, Recreation, or a related field.
• Experience working with youth sports, youth leadership/development, or YMCA professional work in a related field preferred.
• Ability to supervise, train, and support program staff.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.
• Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire
Physical And Mental Requirements
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
• Able to sit, stand, and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
• Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
• Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
• May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
• Work in different temperature environments.
