Purpose
The communication and engagement specialist will work as a liaison between various school district stakeholders (community members, parents, staff) and the school district. To be successful in this position, the communication and engagement specialist will work closely with members of the school community and leadership to promote district activities and success using various methods of technology and digital media, including managing the district’s social media accounts. It will be necessary for the communication and engagement specialist to establish or maintain cooperative relationships with representatives of the community, employees, or public interest groups.

Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communication, or a related field
• 3-5 Years of experience in a related field
Required Qualifications
• Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects
• Proven ability to utilize graphic design and website management
Physical Demands
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to
• Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
• Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, stretching, sitting and standing
• Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
• Frequently work in noisy environments
• Move around the classroom
• Read handwritten or printed material
• The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.
• Occasionally, the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods to perform such tasks as supervising and assisting events and after-school activities.

Essential Functions
• Assist the superintendent, principals, and Directors in setting, implementing, and evaluating the district’s communication and community engagement goals.
• Serve as the primary contact for all public relations and serve as the public information officer.
• Implement the school district’s communication plan to assist in achieving the district’s strategic goals.
• Support the district’s recruiting and retention plan to assist in achieving the district's values.
• Assist with the onboarding of employees.
• Assist with the coordination and database maintenance of the district’s employee recognition program.
• Develop community partnerships tied to strategic initiatives
• Direct and assist in facilitating various district campaigns, engaging parents and other community partners.
• Assist in coordinating district surveys, internally and externally, better to understand the needs of the district and community.
• Serve as the primary contact for district internal and crisis communications.
• Manage media requests and coordinate interviews and news releases
• Assist in the development and coordination of District publications, overseeing uses of branding and logos
• Assist with graphic design needs District-wide
• Assist in overseeing all district social media accounts and regularly post news, other information, and announcements as needed.
• Assist with the management of the District website
• Assist in coordinating district events such as convocations, forums, community gatherings, etc.
• Attend athletic and performing arts events to take pictures and videos for promotional purposes and news releases.
• Coordinate inclement weather communications
• Assist in pursuing alternative income streams
• Serve as a liaison to the Solomon Gorilla Foundation and assist with outreach and communication efforts.
• Direct and oversee all community engagement efforts in coordination with other partners
• Manage all alumni relations and coordinate the planning of events and other efforts.
• Attend School Board and Administration meetings
• Carry out all other duties as assigned
• Regular and punctual on-site attendance are essential functions of this position; irregular work hours may be required due to attendance at district and community events.
