Job Description
The Corporate QA/QC Manager is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing the quality assurance and quality control functions across the company’s industrial construction projects. This role ensures that all projects adhere to client requirements and company standards through rigorous testing and quality management practices. The position requires a deep understanding of ASME codes, welding procedures, and quality management systems, as well as strong leadership and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
• Leadership and Team Management
• Mentorship and Coaching: Mentor and develop QA/QC staff, providing regular feedback and performance evaluations. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
• Team Coordination: Lead and coordinate daily QA/QC activities across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and client expectations.
• Resource Management: Secure and deploy resources effectively to meet project demands. Address and remove obstacles to enhance team performance and project outcomes.
• Quality Assurance and Control
• Compliance Oversight: Manage and oversee corporate and project-specific quality to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and quality program requirements. This includes ASME B&PV Codes, WPS, WPQ, and NBIC Codes.
• Quality Management Systems (QMS): Develop, implement, and maintain QMS for construction, execution, inspection, and documentation activities. Ensure adherence to quality management principles and continuous improvement processes.
• Inspection and Testing: Create and oversee inspection and test plans for new construction, repairs, and alterations. Supervise all visual and NDE inspections, including those performed by subcontractors.
• Risk-Based Inspection: Develop and implement risk-based inspection activities and processes. Identify and address issues with inspection and testing to ensure quality standards are met.
• Performance Improvement and Innovation
• Quality Achievement: Promote quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization. Encourage and support initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and operational efficiency.
• Innovation: Cultivate a culture of innovation by creating and implementing new and better methods for achieving organizational objectives. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to drive continuous improvement.
• Technical Expertise and Compliance
• Standards and Codes: Ensure deep knowledge and application of ASME B&PV Codes, including Sections I, VIII-1, IX, B31.1, and B31.3. Maintain expertise in ASME Welding Procedures (WPS), Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ), and NBIC Codes.
• Documentation Management: Oversee the safe storage and verification of all project-related documentation, including turnover, inspection, testing, and quality control records. Ensure compliance with local, state, and jurisdictional certification and licensing requirements.
• Safety and Risk Management
• Safety Program Integration: Integrate company Health and Safety procedures and controls into all QA/QC activities. Ensure all safety protocols are followed and effectively communicated to project teams.
• Safety Accountability: Maintain and enhance the company’s safety program, ensuring that all safety requirements are met and that safety concerns are addressed promptly.
Education and Certifications
• Required:
• Certification in architectural, structural, construction, or engineering technology or a related field.
• American Welding Society (AWS) CWI Certification.
• Extensive experience (15+ years) in heavy construction with a strong background in ASME B&PV Codes and NBIC Codes.
• Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
• Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or a related field.
Technical Skills And Experience
• Communication: Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including craft, project management, corporate management, client representatives, and regulatory authorities.
• Coordination and Organization: Excellent coordination and organizational skills, with a focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication.
• Regulatory Experience: Experience working with local jurisdictional authorities and regulatory bodies. Solid understanding of project-specific documentation requirements related to turnover, inspection, testing, installations, and quality control.
• Project Management: Proven experience in project management, including project execution and oversight of QA/QC processes.
