SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER
The Pulaski County Public School Board, Virginia is now accepting applications for a Special Education Teaching position at Pulaski County High School. PCPS believes that all students can achieve at high levels. Teachers will hold primary responsibility for implementation of the students’ curriculum as described in the IEP, creating corresponding Special Education experiences, and ensuring the success of its students. Teachers will provide rigorous educational experiences to propel students’ intellectual growth.
Responsibilities
• Developing strong relationships with parents and students, creating investment in school culture and academics
• Implementing curricula and activities to meet academic standards as described in the IEP
• Participate in collaborative content development, coursework and activities to ensure that accommodations are met in inclusive settings to the maximum extent possible
• Oversee the drafting, implementation, and maintenance of IEPs
• Develop intervention plans with classroom teachers to ensure that student learning goals are clear and measurable and then track student success in meeting these goals
• Differentiate methodology to accommodate learning differences
• Effectively use technology in teaching and learning
• Infuse and encourage student demonstration of creative thinking, problem solving, critical thinking, scholarly writing, constructive dialog, cultural competence, strong decision making and creative solutions
• Designing and modify assessments that measure progress towards academic standards
• Using assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices
• Driving academic outcomes by analyzing student work and data, and implementing high leverage instructional practices to ensure growth
• Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school wide functions
• Collaborating with partner teacher(s) to create consistent structures and systems for your shared students
• Conduct IEP meetings
• Maintain records and progress monitoring
• Teach basic academic and life skills
• Manage a caseload up to the state maximum
• Assist students with mobility and hygiene needs as determined by the IEP team
• Manage and direct paraprofessionals
• Attend and participate in professional development and division meetings
• And other duties as assigned

• Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teacher's License with appropriate endorsement to teach special education
• Have experience in curriculum development
• Have experience and expertise in using technology in education
• Have strong written, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with parents and families
• Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or School Board may find appropriate and acceptable
• Proficient in computer based IEP system, experience with VA IEP preferred.
• Knowledge of characteristics of disabilities & implications for instruction.
• Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, organize, and prioritize work to meet ongoing deadlines.
• Ability to work well with others exhibiting exemplary interpersonal skills.
• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
• Strong behavioral understanding of students in the public school setting
• Possess or be eligible for licensure in K12 general curriculum or adaptive curriculum special education
