Position Overview: You are responsible for operating various heavy equipment, such as mini excavators and backhoe loaders to perform tasks related to wet and dry utilities installations and maintenance. Your expertise in teamwork, equipment operation and attention to quality contribute to the successful completion of projects while ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. Responsibilities: Equipment Operation: Safely operate mini excavators and backhoe loaders. Excavation and Trenching: Assist crew members with excavation by getting off of heavy machinery and performing trenching work to access utility lines, following instructions and using appropriate tools and equipment. Ensure proper depth and width of trenches according to project requirements. Utility System Installation: Perform excavations, trenching, grading, and backfilling for the installation and maintenance of underground utility systems. Support the installation of water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, electrical, communication, gas sleeve, and other utility systems by assisting with the positioning and placement of pipes, fittings, and related materials. Backfilling and Compaction: Assist in backfilling excavated areas after utility system installations or repairs, using proper compaction techniques to ensure stability and compliance with project specifications. Transport and Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, equipment, and crews to and from job sites. General Labor: Perform various general labor tasks on construction sites, including but not limited to dust control, organizing tools and equipment, clearing debris, maintaining clean and safe jobsites, and assisting other team members as directed. Equipment Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of heavy equipment to ensure proper functioning and adherence to safety standards. Report any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly to the company mechanic. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety guidelines, regulations, and company policies at all times. Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment and maintain a safe working environment for yourself and team members. Project Coordination: Collaborate with area managers, superintendents and other team members to understand scope of work, coordinate work tasks and ensure project deadlines are met. Communicate effectively with team members regarding project progress and any potential issues. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and daily activity logs. Complete any required paperwork or forms promptly and accurately. Equipment Efficiency: Optimize equipment performance by employing efficient operating techniques and practices. Ensure fuel and other resources are utilized effectively to minimize waste. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, equipment advancements, and best practices in heavy equipment operation. Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities as required. Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent - Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and pass a background check - CDL REQUIRED - Ability to perform heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of material weighing 50 pounds - Ability to squat, crawl, stoop, and kneel - Proven experience operating excavators and backhoes - Familiarity with dry and wet utilities installations, such as electric, phone, cable, gas, water mains, sewer lines, storm drains, area drains, and return air systems - Strong understanding of equipment operation techniques, safety protocols, and maintenance procedures - Knowledge of relevant regulations and safety guidelines related to heavy equipment operation in the utilities industry - Ability to read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and construction drawings - Excellent hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and spatial awareness - Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills - Physical stamina and ability to work in various weather conditions and challenging environments - Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and follow instructions - Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to company policies Job Type: Full-time Pay: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour Benefits: Dental insurance Health insurance Life insurance Paid time off Professional development assistance Referral program Vision insurance Schedule: 8 hour shift Monday to Friday Overtime People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply Experience: Heavy equipment operation: 1 year (Preferred) tract home construction: 3 years (Preferred) custom home construction: 3 years (Preferred) License/Certification: CDL (Preferred) Ability to Relocate: Glendale, AZ: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In person
