Corteva Agriscience is seeking a Field Research Scientist to join our Biotech Trait Characterization and Development team. The Field Research Scientist (FRS) will coordinate day to day field research operations for Biotechnology with a focus on trait research projects at the Mankato, Minnesota Research Center in addition to potential off-site locations. The FRS will be expected to execute field experiments concurrently; collect, manage, and report data for multidisciplinary research.
Purpose: To manage execution of regional testing to characterize the field performance of traits that support the technical objectives of Biotechnology and product development goals of Corteva Agriscience. Leads the execution of efficacy and agronomic trials for trait characterization along with seed applied technology (efficacy) in corn and soy.
Interacts with: A broad range of biotechnology and seed product development personnel including, research center staff, cross-functional discovery assessment teams, trait characterization project scientists, seed applied technology biology leaders, trait field scientists, seed production logistics team members, statisticians, regulatory scientists, global biology leaders in seeds and crop protection, and product stewardship personnel.
Key Responsibilities – What You'll Do:
• The Field Research Scientist will coordinate execution of research protocols primarily at the Mankato Research Center. The FRS will execute day to day activities to ensure high quality data collection from field trials designed to characterize efficacy, agronomics, and crop safety. Flawlessly execute experiments to completion, according to specific protocols, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate. This includes, but is not limited to, the knowledge of general agronomic practices, pesticide application and evaluation procedures, crop scouting, implementation of new technologies, computer skills, and skills in experimental design and analysis. Use Corteva proprietary software for initiation, mapping, tracking and analysis of experiments, and communicate data and information as appropriate to all experiment managers.
• Participates on cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams within Corteva charged with the planning, management and execution of advancement/development plans for transgenic events in key crops.
• Communicate and work jointly with the Research Center team to ensure success of all product development and research programs.
• Be innovative - apply a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products, and problems.
• Work closely with Project Scientists, Biology Leaders, and team members across the North America Field Sciences testing network to deliver high quality data to characterize event performance and drive advancement decisions.
• Execute specialized methods development and/or field probe studies to support specific key questions. Support field demonstration trials and lead field tours with key stakeholders to view ongoing trials in season.
• Responsible for continuously updating their own scientific/agronomic background in research areas relevant to role.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Experience Required – What Skills You Need:
SKILLS:
• B.S with 3+ yrs experience or M.S. in Plant Science, Weed Science, Entomology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, or related fields.
• Broad scientific and agronomic understanding including experience with field trial execution.
• Demonstrated knowledge and field research experience working with regulated transgenic material or demonstrated agility to learn.
• Must be committed to a strong safety and environmental stewardship culture.
• Extensive understanding of the techniques and approaches associated with quality high volume small plot crop research.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, experience in working with research staff and a proven track record of operating in a complex team environment in a timeline-driven environment.
• Excellent computer, data management, statistical analysis, and data presentation skills are essential.
• Willing to work outdoors, wear personal protective equipment, operate agriculture equipment (tractor, backpack sprayer), and travel (20%) to locations across Minnesota and South Dakota to conduct trials.
• Demonstrated ability to innovate and strive for continuous improvement.
• Valid driver's license.
