What Will You Do?: As an underwriter, your work creates the foundation of our business. We could not protect businesses or provide peace of mind to clients without your expertise. You determine who our clients are and how we can better serve their needs. Your judgement helps us write and retain profitable business. Federated provides paid classroom and hands-on training designed to teach you the fundamentals of underwriting. To set you up for success, you will complete Federated’s robust classroom and hands-on training, designed to teach the foundations of underwriting at Federated. After training you will be assigned a territory to underwrite for. With minimal supervision, you will have sole ownership over your territory and will partner closely with a multitude of internal departments to gather, analyze and evaluate the risk of new and existing customers. The training begins on September 30th, 2024. Underwriters hired for our Mankato location will train and work in our Owatonna office for approximately one year, then work out of the Mankato office. Responsibilities Gather and analyze information about a client’s or prospect’s business operations, history and location Alongside colleagues, decide what products and services the business needs Decide how much premium must be charged to cover the risk of insuring the business Offer risk management solutions designed to help the business operate safely and profitably Become an expert in the political landscape, legal climate, demographics, economy, environment, and competitiveness of your territory Periodically travel to your territory to gain additional knowledge and work directly with clients and prospects Use exceptional communication skills to build relationships with colleagues and clients Minimum Qualifications A four-year degree in a business-related field Strong analytical, computer and time management skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills What We Offer: We offer a wide variety of ways to support you as a whole, both professionally and personally.
