Job Summary Responsible for collecting, abstracting, coding, maintaining, and inputting all aspects of patient data in accordance with the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), and Kentucky Trauma Registry (KTR) as determined by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) and OHRH needs in order for Owensboro Health Regional Hospital to receive/maintain trauma verification through the ACS-COT and designation through the Kentucky Trauma Advisory Committee (KYTAC). # Job Responsibilities Accurately collects, abstracts, codes, and inputs patient information and clinical data from all sources into the trauma registry. Performs data validation as required by the American College of Surgeons and maintains a 90% accuracy rate of trauma registry data content. Ensures all documentation produced by the registry meets the current requirements of the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB). Assists the medical staff, trauma committee members, and hospital administration, as needed, with requests for information and special data analysis. Adheres to American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS-COT) current criteria for chart closure within 60-days of patient discharge. Participates in Trauma Performance Improvement and ACS Committee meetings and educational conferences in order to maintain and expand Trauma Registry knowledge base Obtains, manages, and articulates information from outside agencies such as emergency medical services, transferring/referring healthcare organizations, and coroner office(s). Participates in internal and community outreach education on injury prevention, trauma systems, and trauma data. Qualifications Associate#s degree or higher in healthcare related field required upon hire AND Successful completion of The American Trauma Society#s Trauma Registrar Course required within 1 year of employment in this position AND Successful completion of Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine Injury Scaling (AIS) course required within 1 year of employment in this position A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree. A minimum of 1 year relevant experience required Skills and Attributes Knowledge and proficiency of the current edition of the National Trauma Data Dictionary, ICD-10 coding manuals and AIS coding standards. Provides strong customer service skills, in both verbal and written communications. Requires attention to detail. Learning and applies knowledge at a basic level relying heavily on senior staff for troubleshooting. Works under direct supervision. Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology.
