Dotson Iron Castings is seeking a candidate for an experienced Design Engineer ready to drive innovation for customer solutions! As a member of our Engineering team – you will be involved in promoting the Dotson Company and its products and services to current and prospective customers, with a focus to provide the highest level of customer service. Your first year, and beyond, as you focus on results and advance with innovation with Dotson: Teamwork: You will join the Engineering team and will work often with our Sales and Customer Service teams to build customer relationships and to exceed customer expectations. You’ll promote safety in the work environment and offer suggestions for improvements of processes and products. Directly impact our customers: You will have direct and have immediate impact on Dotson customers through quoting, new job set up through design and long-term customer relations when resolving quality issues and educating customers on the Dotson Difference. Agile Development: You will provide technical support to internal team members and customers and will work with design and simulation software to improve quality of castings and facility efficiency. Design: you will design new tooling, make recommendations and changes to existing tooling (including gating and risers), and facilitate yield improvements. You will also work with simulation software – including MAGMA for casting and SolidWorks for CAD design. Who is Dotson? Dotson is located in Mankato, MN and this position would visit customers and other Maclean Power System (MPS) locations as needed. Dotson is a division of MPS - Maclean Power Systems. To join Dotson, you will need Ability to develop personal relationships: Customers: Travel to customer locations occasionally to assist with design, resolve quality issues and deliver presentations. Internal Teams: interact and provide technical support to Dotson teams. Experience: Associate’s degree or work equivalent in engineering or related field and 2+ years reading/interpreting blueprints, technical drawings and computer generated reports Communicate and Interact Effectively: The ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook to effectively communicate with internal teams and our customers. You will assure that customer issues are addressed in a timely fashion and engage other teams as needed. Conditions of Employment: Must successfully pass a drug-screen, and background check. Additional Responsibilities Designs new tooling and makes changes to existing tooling. Performs gating and rising design. Performs casting simulations (MAGMA). Communicates procurement information. Develops tooling CAD designs (SolidWorks). Assists with quoting process. Travels to customer locations to assist with design, resolve quality issues, and deliver presentations. Assists with new job start up. Facilitates yield improvements Authorizes sample and pre-production approvals. Provides technical support to account managers and customers. Participates in cost reduction and energy saving projects. Coordinates problem solving analysis. Maintains accurate record keeping. Proves out designs by testing, destructive and non-destructive. Identifies emerging technology to be integrated within the company. Offers suggestions for improvements of operations or processes. Works with team members to maximize productivity and efficiency. Performs physical and cognitive demands promoting safety in the work environment required for this position. Attends work during regularly scheduled hours and outside regular hours as necessary. Communicates and interacts effectively and efficiently with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers.
