Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

-Working within a fast paced environment that involves a high volume of phone calls, communicating with clients that may be distressed during the process of dealing with an unwell animal.
Position Summary
The primary responsibility for this position will be to assist the Emergency Critical Care team on setting appointments and receiving emergency patients needing to transfer or seek emergent care. This position will answer phones, open patient charts in the hospital database system and process payments for services. In addition to the clerical services of this position, this position will also facilitate communication between the Veterinary Medical Center and the Diagnostic Lab for after life processing and necropsies dropped off at the hospital after hours.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating excellent customer service, high degree of confidentiality, openness to teaching and providing consultation to a variety of stakeholders.
• Knowledge of general animal anatomy and Ability to recognize signs of medical needs in a patient.
• Possess proven Knowledge of veterinary terminology.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite applications and Office machines like fax, copier, scanner, etc.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
• Remember, organize, and consistently focus on large amounts of detail and come to appropriate conclusions.
Physical Demands
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, both assisted and unassisted.
• Sit or stand for long periods and use of repetitive actions during the entire work shift.
• Use of stairs and different/uneven walking surfaces is common.
• Communicate effectively via telephone, e-mail, and in person to varied stakeholders.
• Utilize computer technology for all applications in a manner that meets performance expectations.
• Work within an environment with potential exposure to zoological diseases and has high levels of animal sounds, bodily fluids that need disposal, and open wound management.

• First point of contact via phone or in-person for clients to bring their pets for emergency care.
• Assist clients regarding veterinary services rendered by communicating hospital charges and policies. Receive in-coming patients at the Emergency front desk.
• Enter patient information into the hospital database systems Vetview and Instinct.
• Verify contact information for referring veterinarians to obtain medical records and vaccination status.

• Run reports daily to determine that patients that have expired within the hospital or delivered to the hospital for after life care and processed appropriately and if applicable, entered into the correct portals for cremation services.
• Verify that if the patient is a current patient of the hospital, that they are marked deceased and the referring clinic is notified of the patient passing.
• Check morgue log books daily that patients have been picked up and transferred to correct locations to be processed for the clients respected disposal option.
• Works directly with clinicians that all appropriate requests and charges have been entered into the hospital database Vetview.

• Provide cashier services for patients that are hospitalized and/ or discharged from the hospital through the Emergency service.
• Verify that patients that are admitted into the hospital are checked in as admitted in the hospital database, as well as a deposit and consent to treat form is signed by the correct client.
