MPS - Mankato, formerly Dotson Iron Castings, is hiring a Production Supervisor for 2nd shift (1:30PM to 10:30PM). As a member of our operations team – you will be involved in supporting and directing the work of a team to achieve production goals. This position has a direct impact on the development of others and their success in their roles – impacting efficiency, timeliness, and quality standards of our products. Your first year, and beyond, as you focus on results and advance with innovation with MPS - Mankato: Teamwork: You’ll join the operations team and work to develop and support a production team to achieve production goals. You’ll promote safety in the workplace – ensuring a safe workplace and ensuring others are following safety procedures. Directly impact our customers: Your team will be responsible for sending high quality products within our on-time delivery goals. Agile Development: You’ll actively develop team members within your team – planning, directing, coaching, motivating and evaluating team members. You’ll conduct on-the-floor training and shift meetings for team members. Equipment: You’ll support on the floor care of equipment and work with maintenance when additional attention is needed. You’ll be a part of future solutions for the organization by researching and analyzing effective solutions for equipment. Responsibilities: Actively promotes and ensures a safe working environment, ensuring all employees are working safely and following safety rules. Oversees direct reports by promoting engagement, working productively, and meeting goals of the department. Plans, directs, monitors, coaches, motivates, and evaluates employees. Participates in the hiring, discipline, and performance management of employees. Provides training on production/shop floor tasks for new employees and refresher training as needed to meet company expectations. Uses written training documents to ensure consistent training. Coordinates training with SME’s where necessary. Develops production plans for effective use of equipment and employees to assure product flows according to company goals and expectations. Ensures the quality of work in their area meets expectations. Develops and executes plans for their employees to “care” for equipment in their areas, monitors performance and notifies maintenance when additional attention is needed. Follows up with maintenance as needed to assure effective equipment performance. Researches and analyzes the feasibility, cost, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems. Always maintains a clean and organized work area including outside of the building. Establishes or coordinates the maintenance or safety procedures, service schedule, or supply of materials required to maintain machines or equipment in the prescribed condition. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and makes recommendations to maintenance and to resolve issues in a timely manner. Optimizes the equipment and process about setup time, changeover, and operational cycles. Provides the process and operational documentation for effective use of the equipment in the production environment. Performs employee shift meetings on a regular basis and attends various meetings and/or participates on committees as needed or assigned. Offers suggestions for improvements of operations or processes. Performs physical and cognitive demands promoting safety in the work environment required for this position. Attends work during regularly scheduled hours and outside regular hours as necessary. Communicates and interacts effectively and efficiently with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and customers. Performs other related work as assigned or apparent. Participates in professional staff development. Qualifications High School Diploma / GED 3-5 years of experience in production or manufacturing operation Experience in Lean Manufacturing. Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities Bachelors or Associates degree 2 years of experience in leading work crews or supervision Ability to resolve employee issues professionally Ability to understand, promote, and sustain change Demonstrates strong abilities in troubleshooting skills Conditions of Employment Must successfully pass a pre-employment assessment, physical, drug-screen, and background check. Cognitive and Physical abilities Activities that occur extensively (more than 6 hours) are using near and far vision, depth perception, visual accommodation, peripheral vision, communicating verbally, organization skills, interpersonal skills, working with interruptions, and effective time management skills. Activities that occur frequently (from 4 to 6 hours) are talking, hearing, problem solving, using creativity, and concentrating. Activities that occur occasionally (from 1 to 3 hours) are sitting, standing, walking, pushing, twisting, climbing staircases, reaching at, above, or below shoulder level individually or at the same time, handling, using fine manipulation, using color vision, carrying and lift up to 24 pounds, analytical ability, and communicating in writing. Activities that occur infrequently (up to 60 minutes) are bending, squatting, crouching, pulling, sense of touch, using both feet individually or at the same time, carrying and lifting from 25-50 pounds. Environment Must be able to operate all equipment required of this position in the foundry including but not limited to general office equipment. Requires incumbent to work inside, outside, on uneven ground, on slippery surfaces, alone, with others, around others, and have contact with customers. Incumbent may be exposed to dust, fumes, noise, excessive noise, vibration, pressurized equipment, burning material, moving objects, heat, extreme heat, and marked changes in temperature.
