Engineering Technician - Position is located in Maysville, KY. Relocation assistance is provided (not remote). We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Engineering Technician to join our team. As an Engineering Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our engineering department by utilizing your expertise in various technical tasks. POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for providing technical expertise ranging from analysis, design, contract administration, and completion of project construction while also acting as a technical expert related to all engineering-related software applications. In addition, this position is responsible for monitoring all changes and approvals of engineering documents and ensuring the Engineering Document Management System (EDMS) is up-to-date. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS · Reports to supervisor, supervises no one and has no direct reports. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Substation · Implements new technologies for process improvements for survey, design, and · construction activities. · Provides technical support for software applications and specialized hardware used · within the Engineering Department. · Provides technical expertise in the areas of manual and computerized drafting in order · to enhance efficiency and productivity. · Creates or revises basic, detailed, and complex drawings, drawing components, maps, · and drafting documents utilizing a computerized drafting system, including scanning and · modification of drawings. · Administrates all GIS related activities as they relate to substation construction. · Performs design activities for new, upgrade, and/or modification of substation projects · as assigned. · Develops preliminary drawings based on standards and project requirements for review · by Engineers. · Develops mapping for all activities associated with substation construction. · Develops and maintain standards used in substation design software applications. · Provides management for both in-house and contract survey activities for substations. · Generates information used in substation siting and site procurement activities used by · Right-of-Way Agents. · Performs design activities using Eagle Point or applicable software for all substation site · grade and drain design, and basic layout as assigned. · Acquires permits required for transmission and distribution projects and provides field · crew with documentation. · Creates and maintains all data and files associated with all project design drawings. · Manages data and exhibits used in sponsored open houses for new substations · projects. · Implements new technologies for process improvements for survey, design, and · construction activities. · Provides technical support for all software applications and specialized hardware used · within the Engineering Department. · Provides technical expertise in the areas of manual and computerized drafting in order · to enhance efficiency and productivity. · Creates or revises basic, detailed, and complex drawings, drawing components, maps, · and drafting documents utilizing a computerized drafting system, including scanning and · modification of drawings. · Administrates all GIS related activities as they relate to transmission line construction. · Develops mapping for all activities associated with transmission line construction. · Develops and maintains standards used in transmission line design software · applications. · Provides management for both in-house and contract survey activities, including aerial · photography and data collection. · Generates information used in right-of-way procurement activities. · Performs route and corridor selection for new transmission line projects using internal · criteria and the EPRI/GTC Methodology. · Assists with CPCN applications, including documentation and exhibits pertaining to · routing and engineering decisions. · Performs design activities for new transmission, reconductor, upgrade, and relocation · projects as assigned. · Acquires permits required for transmission projects and provides field crew with · documentation. · Creates and maintains all data and files associated with transmission line projects. · Manages data and exhibits used in sponsored open houses for new transmission · line projects. Property & Records · Researches, evaluates, and implements new technologies for process improvements for · drawing management, drawing as-builts, and database management. · Administers, supports, updates, and manages the Adept EDMS program. Ensures all · engineering documents are current, contain accurate meta-data, and documents are · recorded in the EDMS (e.g. drawings, test reports, etc.). · Develop preliminary drawings based on standards and project requirements for review · by engineers, and perform drafting and design activities for new, upgrade, and/or · modification drawings as assigned. · Provides drawing management and Management of Change oversight for engineering · drawings and documents for in-house, contract, and vendor drawings. · Provides technical support for software applications and specialized hardware used · within Engineering Services. · Provides technical expertise in the areas of manual and computerized drafting in order · to enhance efficiency and productivity. · Creates or revises basic, detailed, and complex drawings, drawing components, maps, · and drafting documents utilizing a computerized drafting system, including scanning and · modification of drawings. · Supports all GIS related activities as they relate to Engineering Services. · Develop mapping for all activities associated with Engineering Services. · Develops and maintains standards used in the Adept software applications and the · integration of Adept with Maximo. · Provides database administration within the EDMS for all engineering drawings · Creates and maintains all data and filing associated with Engineering Service projects. · Reviews updates to standards/procedures, and provides feedback. · Performs other duties as assigned. Telecommunications · Provides technical support for all software applications and specialized hardware used · within the Telecommunications Department. · Provides technical expertise in the areas of manual and computerized drafting in order · to enhance efficiency and productivity. · Creates or revises basic, detailed, and complex drawings, drawing components, maps, · and drafting documents utilizing a computerized drafting system, including scanning and · modification of drawings. · Monitors OSI system for failed Telecommunications equipment. · Creates and tracks trouble tickets, change requests, work orders, service requests, and · assignments as directed. · Assists in maintaining standards used in Telecommunication design software · applications. · Issues initial outage notifications for FAA Tower Lights. · Creates and maintains all data and files associated with all project design drawings. · Isolates and correlates multiple customer issues identified with alarms/alerts received · to eliminate duplication of events as directed. · Monitors network, applications, and systems across the Telecommunications Network · for alarms and alerts received from management systems. · Monitors a Two-Way Radio system for alarms and alerts. · Generates monthly reports for RICE MACT Rule for standby generators for · Telecommunication facilities. · Coordinates meetings and provides site access for service providers and contractors. · Troubleshoots and repairs equipment in the Telecommunications office and off-site with · Telecommunication Technicians. · Coordinates returns and repairs of Telecommunications Network equipment. · Configures, tests, and turnup of Telecommunications Network Equipment (e.g. two way · radio equipment, SCADA and microwave radio equipment, fiber optic communications · equipment, etc.). · Enters requisitions for material and labor using PeopleSoft. · Installs battery and DC monitoring systems. · Coordinates all planned maintenance outages with the Control Center. · Coordinates scheduling of bucket trucks from appropriate Service Centers to assist · Telecommunications Technicians. · Assists in maintaining and updating NERC CIP records and associated documentation for · compliance. RELATIONSHIPS · Receives work direction and guidance from leader and engineers. · Works with various company employees to perform work tasks. · Works with contractors on providing and acquiring drawings and documents for company · project work. JOB SPECIFICATIONS · Bachelor’s degree in a related area. An equivalent combination of education and · experience may substitute. · Five (5) years of related experience. · Transmission and Substation · Knowledge of substation surveying, design, site selection, and construction · methods/procedures. · Knowledge of PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE, Microstation, and EaglePoint. · Knowledge in all Microsoft Office applications. · Working knowledge of Visual Basic or other programming language as well as general · networking and PC knowledge. · Demonstrated skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously. · Must have effective oral and written communication skills. · Ability to supervise field operations on a case-by-case basis required. · Knowledge of FAA and FCC standards. · Ability to read electrical diagrams/prints. · Demonstrated experience with drafting and records management policies and practices. · Knowledge of Adept, Peoplesoft, Microstation, and Autocad. · Proficient computer skills required (Word, Excel, Outlook). · Database administration skills including revision control, auditing, and data · configuration. · Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of personnel including · external contacts. · Must have effective listening, oral, and written communication skills. · Ability to effectively present material for training purposes. · Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude. · Excellent follow-through, organization skills, and attention to detail. · Demonstrated skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously. · Ability to effectively prioritize work, manage time, and adhere to deadlines.
