Accounting Specialist
Position: Accounting Specialist
The Georgia Crop Improvement Association (GCIA) is an independent, nonprofit organization providing unbiased, third-party inspection and auditing services to farmers and agribusinesses in the seed, grain, food and related industries with primary emphasis on seed and turfgrass certification. In addition to traditional seed and turfgrass certification, GCIA also provides other services to the ag industry such as organic certification, produce food safety audits, and audits for license compliance and royalty collection.
Position Summary: A highly diversified position performing the effective workflow of all accounting, payroll, and human resources functions for GCIA to include that employees are aware of policies, procedures, and benefits associated with employment. This position is located at the GCIA headquarters in Athens, Georgia.
Duties / Responsibilities:
-Performs bookkeeping / accounting functions
-Processes payroll and pays all associated taxes
-Monitors internal financial controls
-Prepares financial reports as requested
-Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements
-Manages human resources functions
-Organizes and maintains office operations
-Assists in budget planning and development
-Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed
Job Requirements: Ability to work in a team environment, adapt to change, and be flexible. Attention to detail and willingness to learn new skills.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in accounting/business or related discipline and a minimum of three years’ experience preferred or an associate’s degree in accounting/business administration and a minimum of five years of experience; must have extensive experience with QuickBooks;  one year human resources experience.
Other Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in QuickBooks; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Word, and willing to learn new software programs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Compensation: commensurate with experience.
