Full-Time Rotating Substitute Teacher
FULL TIME SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
The Pulaski County Public School Board, Virginia is now accepting applications for a full time Substitute position. Provides assistance to the school in the absence of the teacher; performs related tasks as required and directed by co-teachers, department chairs or administration; carries out particular routine duties and responsibilities of the instructional program as provided in the lesson plans.
Rotating substitutes will provide daily substitute coverage to meet the vacancy/staffing needs of the division. Assignments will be made each day based on the identified need. Support will vary from grades K-12 as needed. Tasks could include providing support to students both in the virtual arena or in the classroom setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students   and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
• Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
• Provides support to students in the virtual/classroom setting. Virtual support could include assisting virtual students with home delivery of instructional materials.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Reports to office upon arrival at school; checks mailbox of absent teacher for materials requiring immediate attention; requests clarification of school rules and procedures, if necessary.
• Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority   immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
• Implements lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
• Organizes students for effective instruction.
• Dismisses all students from the classroom before leaving the building.
• Completes a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular classroom teacher.
• Collects and places students’ papers in the teacher’s desk.
• Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
• Determines where services will be required for the next school day.
• Complies with and support school and division regulations and policies.
• Maintains proper boundaries with students at all times, assuring respect for the ethical and legal duties in the staff-student relationship and the essential duty to serve as a role model.
• Serves as a role model of an educated professional in appearance, demeanor, dress and behavior.
• Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by supervising principal and other division administrative personnel.
Other Job Functions:
• Maintain positive communication with colleagues, community members, parents, and students to promote an increase in community engagement in education.
• Possesses good moral character and exemplifies a good role model for all students.
• Maintains confidentiality of students in accordance with FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
• Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
• Complies with COVID masking requirements and corresponding infection control standards.
Physical Requirements
• Duties performed in a school setting typically include: classrooms, gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds and occasional lifting of equipment and/or materials weighing up to 40 pounds may be required. Other physical activities may be required.
• Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary.
• Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing noise and hazards.
• Occasional movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required. Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support may be required

• Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the Pulaski County School Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
Supervisor: Principal/Assistant Principal
Contract Length: 10 Month (180 days)

• Associate Degree or higher, preferred

Salary: Full-Time Rotating Substitute Hourly
