REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate must have bachelor's degree. A bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, counseling, or other related field is preferred. If the bachelor's degree is not in one of the preferred areas, a home-based Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate or equivalent coursework as part of an associate or bachelor’s degree program will be required. If the CDA is required, the expenses to obtain the credential will be covered by Heartland. Practical experience and demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of working with families with infants and young children is essential. The position requires flexibility, good organizational skills, knowledge of social service organizations, and experience with or knowledge of low-income family situations and stressors. Prior home visiting experience is desirable. The work involves travel to families' homes in Saline county, so candidates must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record. Heartland vehicles are available for employee use.
GENERAL DISCRIPTION:
The Early Head Start (EHS) Family Consultant (FC) is responsible for providing weekly 90-minute, home-based early childhood education, parenting education, and family support services to voluntary participants in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards. The FC educates and empowers families in the areas of parenting, child development, health, nutrition, mental health, and self-sufficiency, by using outcome based interventions. The FC teaches problem-solving skills and assists families in accessing community resources and existing service systems to promote independence.
SALARY:
Based on years of experience and education.
Classified Salary Schedule - Range 23.
Base wage: $20.89/hr
