Job Salary: $37,752
JOB SUMMARY : Under general supervision, maintains highways, municipal and rural roads, runways, and rights of way. Duties include patching pavement, repairing guardrails, and highway markers.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES : Under general supervision, serves as a primary equipment operator performing work in the maintenance of state highways and rights-of-way or in the installation of traffic control devices. Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned tasks. Performs preventative maintenance duties for assigned equipment and/or vehicles. Performs traffic control duties. Responds to requests for emergency maintenance needs outside of normal working hours. In the absence of may function as an assistant to the Highway Maintenance Foreman.
NOTE: Based on operation requirements such as brine transport and on-call emergencies, possession of a Class A CDL may be preferred for some positions.  At the discretion of the hiring manager, he/she reserves the right to interview only those who meet this criteria in addition to the minimum qualifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications.
STATE ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
· Six months of experience in equipment operation and/or repair, highway maintenance or any other relevant experience AND Valid driver’s license
AGENCY MINIMUM QUALFICATIONS:
· Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License
· Successful completion of MSD Level 1-3.
· Proficient knowledge and understanding of the maintenance activities in the area of assignment
· Proficient in the performance of traffic control duties including a flagging operation
· Experience in planning, completing, and documenting routine maintenance work activities
· Experience in training lower level employees in the safe performance of routine maintenance activities
· Experience in analyzing situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution based on facts, rules, etc.
· Experience in training lower level employees on departmental policies and procedures
· Possess the ability to respond to requests for emergency needs outside of normal working hours without prior notice
· Proven ability to bend, lift, climb, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
· Proven ability to exert oneself physically
· Proven ability to work in adverse weather conditions; lift moderately heavy objects.
· Possess accurate eye-hand coordination
· Proven commitment to providing quality customer service
· Displays a high standard of work ethics and commitment toward work
· Proven working knowledge of maintenance activities in area of assignment
AGENCY PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A.
· Possession of CDL Tanker Endorsement.
· Proficient in AGILE

Good Employment Standing:
In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing.  Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion).  In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation.  Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors.  Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee’s favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
