The Water Services Department (WSD) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join the Laboratory Services Section of the Environmental Services Division. In this role you are responsible for monitoring water quality for inorganic and organic constituents in order to optimize plant processes and maintain regulatory requirements. You will be engaged in the physical, chemical, microbiological, or process-related analyses of wastewater samples in accordance with quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) policies and procedures.
Organics Section
This position is in the Organics Section of the 23 Avenue Compliance Laboratory located at 2474 South 22nd Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85009. The laboratory technician is responsible for extractions of water and wastewater samples for various parameters for compliance and process control requirements. Other duties include and are not limited to the use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for retrieving, tracking and entering analytical data; compliance with safety requirements in the course of routine extractions; and tracking and ordering supplies.

SALARY
Pay Range: $21.02 - $34.25 per hour.
Hiring Range: $21.02 - $25.56 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
• Three years of standard laboratory tests or instrumental analyses in a public health, crime laboratory, or utility chemical laboratory, including courses in chemistry, bacteriology, or a related field.
• Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Preferred Qualifications
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, environmental sciences, or closely related field.
• Experience with/in the following:
• Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), particularly for water/wastewater samples.
• Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) policies and procedures.
• Ordering standards, reagents, and laboratory supplies, and maintaining chemical and consumables inventories using inventory software.
• Laboratory data entry procedures and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
• Environmental Protection Agency and/or Arizona Department of Health Services policies and procedures for laboratory analysis.
• A forensic or environmental chemical or an education environment laboratory.
• Basic maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment as needed.
• Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
• Lab equipment and apparatuses for liquid - liquid sample extractions and solid phase extractions (SPE).
• Sample extractions and organic chemical analyses.
