GENERAL DESCRIPTION Performs professional and technical work implementing and supporting local and wide-area networks including participation in related projects, installation and support of networking infrastructures, server hardware and software configurations, enterprise storage environment, enterprise electronic communications, network monitoring and fine-tuning, documentation and integration of LAN-based technologies within the Information Technology environment.  Performs other duties as assigned.
Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on current workloads and department needs.
The candidate chosen for this position should be heavily skilled in Identity Access Management and Storage.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS • Installs network operating systems, such as Linux and Microsoft Windows, as well as other network software/upgrades.  Provide support as needed.
• Responds to alarms and alerts within the environment utilizing tools such as SolarWinds, System Center Operations manager and System Center Configuration.
• Installs, maintains, configures and manages the day-to-day operations of:
• Fiber channel SAN array hardware and software
• Virtual server environment
• eCommunication system software
• eCommunications spam and anti-virus systems
• email archiving
• mobile communications devices
• desktop faxing software
• network hardware and software with emphasis on routers, switches and firewalls
• wireless network systems
• Intrusion prevention systems
• Web filtering systems
• network backup, data security and virus protection strategies
• access control systems
• Assists with application server software troubleshooting when requested by other CommIT staff or vendors.
• Manage Active Directory including user accounts, file permissions, and access rights in accordance with best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
• Manage user setup and security for applications, such as email, RightFax and other related software.
• Administer, monitor and report on security solutions such as anti-virus and windows security patching.
• Administers the system used for compliance and security awareness.  Verify compliance and take appropriate actions for those that are not compliant.
• Maintains documentation on network hardware, software, installation settings and various other network and communication specifications.
• Participates in procurement activities for acquisition of network infrastructure, enterprise storage, or eCommunication hardware/software.
REQUIREMENTS/PREFERENCES Education
Required : Associate's degree or certificate from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer field or equivalent work experience.  Education or equivalent experience equal to the following:
• VMWare vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage course
• Administering Windows Server 2012 course
• Administering Systems Center 2012 Configuration Manager Course
• Symantec EndPoint Protection Administration online training
• Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices – Part 1 course
• Compellent Administration and Advanced Management
Experience
Required : three to five (5) years experience in multi-server/LAN systems including software and hardware application and configuration.  Demonstrated ability to diagnose and address problems and monitor the progress of initiatives and activities.  High knowledge level of technology components used in complex IT environments.
Certifications/ Licenses
Required: Compatia Network+ certification. Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record.
Preferred :  Cisco CCENT, Novell CNA, Microsoft (MCSA), or VMWare (VCA-DCV),
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Demonstrated knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Ability to work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
• Skill in application of sound technical judgment with an accompanying customer service attitude;
• Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills for dealing with software vendors, staff, user community, and for training other technical staff.
• Ability to work with electrical equipment and around electrical current in the context of computer equipment; work in environments which are sometimes very dusty; physically carry, handle and manipulate network equipment weighing approximately 75 pounds, sometimes located in tight, low and poorly lit areas;
• Ability to work alone and in teams; work occasional nights, weekends, holidays and be on emergency on-call status for network problems; communicate technical plans, information and status to associates; and adapt to changing networking technology concepts and trends.
• Working knowledge of Linux, Microsoft Windows Server, Windows Desktop, terminal emulation, and communications protocols (especially TCP/IP); network technologies such as, wireless LAN, enterprise storage systems, VoIP, network switches, firewalls and routers.
• Ability to take direction, prioritize work, and get clarification when needed and work effectively in a team environment
Additional Requirements
Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from work as well as commute to and from various County buildings and occasional transportation of equipment.
