Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.

Position Summary
The Professional Standards Coordinator provides a wide range of support to the units within the University of Georgia Police Department. This position will manage the applicant screening and criminal background investigations for UGPD new hires and interns. They will also be responsible for assisting with Internal Affairs Investigations and coordinating with UGPD senior leadership to make sure we stay in compliance and that our process is effective. This role will also assist with State Certification processes and assist the State Certification manager with internal and external auditing. The Professional Standards Coordinator will assist with the department's community outreach efforts and work to increase positive interactions on the UGA campus and beyond. This is a non-sworn civilian position.

Applicant Screening & Background Investigations:
• Provides oversight to applicant background criminal investigation process
• Regularly coordinates with other department personnel to ensure hiring goals are achieved
• Assigns background investigations to departmental staff and regularly oversees progress to ensure they are done in a timely and accurate manner
• Performs complete background investigations on applicants under consideration for hire
• Regularly reviews industry best practices to ensure that the background investigation process remains effective
• Seeks out training relating to background investigations
• Performs annual reviews of the background investigation process to ensure that all legal, departmental, and institutional polices and procedures are consistency followed
• Communicates with prospective employees regarding application status
• Provides copies of background investigations upon request

State Certification Standards Management:
• Assists the State Certification Manager with tasks related to the certification process including but not limited to: Building and maintaining files to document the necessary proofs that standards have been met, coordinating with departmental personnel to ensure that agency documentation contains sufficient and appropriate information, and assisting with the preparation process for both mock and actual audits for State Certification purposes.

Community Relations & Outreach Coordination:
• Assists with the department's community outreach efforts for various initiatives designed to increase interactions and improve the relationship between the department and the community in general. Historically, this has included initiatives such as Community Christmas, Trunk or Treat, Coffee with a Cop, and various interactions with local schools and organizations
• Assists with various outreach efforts designed for recruitment purposes, such as job fairs and expos, professional conferences, and related events/functions

• Acts as the lead internal affairs investigator when incidents occur that require such a review;
• Coordinates with departmental leadership and other departmental personnel who assist with internal affairs investigations
• Regular review of the internal affairs investigation process to ensure that all legal, departmental, institutional and University System policies and procedures are consistently followed
• Regular review of industry best practices to ensure that the internal affairs investigation process remains effective
• Seeks out training related to conducting internal affairs investigations to ensure that departmental personnel are consistently prepared to perform the duty
