Position Summary
The IT Infrastructure Specialist position is critical to Auxiliary Services in administering VMware and maintaining infrastructure integrity, ensuring the security of the infrastructure, server and storage functionality as a subject matter expert. This position is responsible for collaborating with EITS regarding VMware software licensing, and acting as "gatekeeper" for associated individual user licenses within Auxiliary Services. This position is also responsible for researching best practices and making recommendations to improve on efficiency and the appropriate security measures. In addition to the administration of this infrastructure, this position may take on a lead role working with other IT professionals in carrying out daily support tasks & projects.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
• Advanced technical knowledge of VMWare vSphere and vCenter, SAN technologies, switches, TCP /IP networking, firewalls, servers, and other IT systems and infrastructure
• Troubleshooting skills
• Leverage internal and external resources to resolve problems and implement solutions; effective written and verbal communication skills
• Lead and participate in project teams
• Learn and understand Auxiliary unit business processes and leverage technical knowledge of infrastructure to support them
• Provide excellent customer service to a wide client base including providing tier 2 and 3 support
Physical Demands
Lift and move various forms of computer hardware and equipment, if needed. Limited local travel. Lift and carry files and materials. Move from one office to another office on campus. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.

Infrastructure Support
• Coordination of installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintaining server, storage, network, and security camera hardware and other infrastructure for which UGA Auxiliary Services IT is responsible following established change control procedures.
• Monitor server, storage, network, and security camera hardware and other infrastructure for failures and performance or configuration issues and troubleshoot, diagnose, and remediate any issues that arise. Coordinate with EITS and other internal and external resources as needed to bring systems back to operational status.
• Serve as emergency backup to building card access admins for all Auxiliary departments and assist in coordination with FMD to resolve any issues with access.
• Maintain user access on designated hardware including facilitating security camera access requests through FMD .
• Ensure building access and cameras are operation daily.
• Serve as backup to key staff as needed when they are out of the office.
• Assist with departmental firewall policy requests.

Server and Storage Administration
• Act as subject matter expert regarding VMware.
• Administer VMware, responsible for the VMware host servers and 100+ virtual servers and 4+ host servers; coordinating systems and assist the systems administration team with designing and provisioning new virtual machines and reconfiguring existing virtual machines including adjusting memory, CPU , and storage allocations.
• Manage storage, CPU , and memory utilization of VMWare environment and camera archive servers and assist with forecasting needs and balancing virtual machines appropriately.
• Develop and maintain best practices for data security, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
• Ensure availability, integrity, and security of server backups for disaster recovery.
• Participate in regular disaster recovery testing.
• Collaborate with EITS to ensure our network is capable of supporting and executing the technical needs of the VMware.
• Act as "gatekeeper" for Auxiliary (in conjunction with EITS ) in the VMware software licensing and associated individual user licenses.

• Stay up to date on technology developments both with the Information Technology industry and the industries of Auxiliary Services' business units and make recommendations based on industry best practices and new technologies that might benefit our business operations.
