Minimum Qualifications
Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
This position will be based in the Necropsy Laboratory of the Athens Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The main responsibilities will include assisting pathologists in conducting necropsy examinations on a variety of animal species, maintaining the Necropsy Laboratory, and processing (trimming) formalin-fixed animal tissues for histologic examinations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
Computer skills (including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel) and experience with digital photography.
Ability to accurately enter numerical data into the laboratory information system.

Duties/Responsibilities
Receive and login animal carcasses submitted for necropsy.
Assist pathologists, residents, and veterinary students during necropsy, process and dispose of animal tissues and remains.
Prepare reagents and order laboratory supplies.
Clean and maintain the necropsy facilities.
Write necropsy standard operating procedures as needed.
