Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with sufficient experience to show competence and innovation in application development. (Will consider a combination of education, training and experience)
• Two or more years experience in developing web applications.
Position Summary
This position is part of the Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health at the University of Georgia - Tifton Campus (Bugwood). The Center develops, maintains, and hosts a large number of digital tools and resources including web, smartphone, and database applications. The IT Applications Support Professional is responsible for working with center staff, federal and state agencies, and other stakeholders to maintain and develop the Bugwood digital resources. They also serve a leading role in web application development. The Application Programmer Associate must have a working knowledge of programming languages such as NodeJS, ColdFusion, Python and JavaScript.
Additional familiarity and experience with front-end frameworks such as React or Svelte would be a benefit. The job requires understanding of how to create web applications that provide users with efficient and effective means of interacting with data.

• This individual will be responsible for researching new ways to accomplish the aims of an application and balance implementation of new technology with time, cost, and compatibility with the other applications the Center maintains or other applications that the project will interact with.
• While older applications may have been written using technologies appropriate to the time, new languages and improved application development frameworks can be used when updating applications or taking on new projects.

Debugging, Quality Control, and Quality Assurance
• Any application will have error handling with notifications sent to the developers. It is the responsibility of this individual to ensure that the application is performing as intended and respond when issues arise. This may involve working with other members of the team in performing root cause analysis and finding workable solutions to improve the user experience.
