The Assistant Vice President of Facilities Management is crucial in ensuring the university's success and the effective stewardship of its resources. Under the general direction of the Vice President of Facilities Development & Management, the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Management, will provide professional leadership for all facilities management support activities and customer interface/engagement for all enterprise locations. Responsibilities include leading and managing all aspects of facilities management and preventive/deferred maintenance. This role involves creating and implementing standards and procedures for maintenance, safety practices, assessments, and security protocols. The position emphasizes fostering a culture of process improvement and service orientation across the built environment. It also entails evaluating and prioritizing facility-related initiatives and collaborating with stakeholders to advance institutional strategic and operational goals, thus ensuring effective, efficient, and secure operations of all facilities. As a creative and strategic leader, the Assistant Vice President will demonstrate excellent collaboration and communication skills. Additionally, duties encompass project development, budgeting, prioritization, resource allocation, customer engagement, direction of facilities services personnel, and managing external partnerships. Close Date 14-June-2024 Category 04 Essential Duties Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and direction for the facilities team, overseeing a large staff and multiple direct reports. Develop criteria for setting and evaluating departmental and individual employee objectives that reflect their contributions to the efficient functioning of the department. Supervise and develop facilities professionals, promoting continuous improvement and training. Engage with a broad spectrum of individuals, fostering trust and building consensus among university stakeholders. Foster a culture of quality customer service, innovation, and environmental sustainability. Strategic Planning and Operations: Develop and implement strategic plans for managing facilities, focusing on capital renewal, operational efficiency, and environmental initiatives. Manage daily operations encompassing: campus physical plants, maintenance, non-capital construction, custodial services, fleet management, grounds, and renovation projects to align with institutional goals. Oversee the facilities' budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility. Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to building codes, environmental standards, and safety regulations. Maintain high standards of campus and emergency preparedness safety. Technology and Systems Management: Utilize advanced technology systems for efficient operations and management of facilities assets. Implement and oversee building management and automation systems. Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with various departments and external partners to meet broader institutional objectives. Effectively communicate with all levels of the university community, including senior administration. Project Management: Lead projects, ensuring adherence to quality and performance standards. Evaluate and manage contracts with external contractors and service providers. Sustainability and Energy Management: Champion sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives across campus facilities. Customer Service and Community Engagement: Maintain high levels of customer service, managing facilities-related inquiries and emergencies. Engage with community and governmental agencies, representing the institution externally. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, Construction Administration, or related field and ten (10) years of experience in facilities management administration, including five (5) years of senior management experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment. Desired Qualifications Evidence of an advanced degree in a related discipline. Experience in strategic planning, change management, and leadership. Proficiency in managing multi-million-dollar budgets and contracts in a university setting. Experience with environmental sustainability initiatives. Evidence of certifications such as CEFP, CFM, CEM, PE, or LEED AP preferred. Working Environment Activities are performed in a variety of internal and external settings. Often in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse. Must be physically and mentally fit to respond to emergency situations. Access various facilities and sites which involves walking, climbing stairs or ladders, standing and walking on uneven surfaces for long periods of time in extreme temperatures. Activities require bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, stretching, climbing, crawling and lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus in dimly lit areas. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
