General Description Under the general direction of the Assistant Gas Department Supervisor and the Construction Chief, to assist with the construction and maintenance of the gas distribution system.

Essential Functions of the Job / Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
• Assists with all gas main construction and gas service maintenance operations.
• Assists with the repair, testing, and installation of gas meters and regulators.
• Assists with locating gas leaks.
• Assists with locating gas mains and services for outside agencies.
• Assists with servicing valves and maintaining regulating stations.
• Operates all departmental construction equipment.
• Adheres to all departmental safety standards and guidelines.
• Attends all required and assigned training and maintains current licenses and certificates as may be required by federal and state regulation and the Public Utilities Commission policy.
The aforementioned functions are normal for this position. They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA’s)
• Ability to learn how to operate Gas Department construction equipment.
• Knowledge of underground construction procedures and techniques.
• Ability to effectively work with others and independently.
• Knowledge of pipe welding practices.
Education and Experience EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer two years of experience in underground construction, equipment operation, AutoCAD, plumbing-pipefitting, welding or equivalent. A valid driver’s license is required. Must secure a valid Class “A” CDL driver’s license within six months of appointment. Must maintain all necessary Operator Qualifications within 1 year of hire.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position is subject to call in for an emergency situation. An employee in this position, therefore, must establish and maintain residency in a location which will permit them to respond to a call within thirty minutes upon receipt of notice of an emergency situation. This requirement must be met within six months of the date of hire. Employees not meeting this requirement within the time period provided are subject to termination.
Physical Requirements This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting and occasionally requires sitting, tasting or smelling and repetitive motions; work requires close vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires working near moving mechanical parts and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, and exposure to vibration; work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic).
