Job Summary
Gathers and analyzes data to identify trends and opportunities for unified quality improvement practices for Prisma Health laboratories. Develops and maintains documentation for laboratory operations and their customers’ needs. Configures, modifies, and maintains lab operations information supported systems. Performs, training, testing, documentation, problem resolution, and implementation for operations systems as a subject matter expert in assigned laboratory area. Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support laboratory customers.
Accountabilities
• Performs in-depth analysis of laboratory workflows, data collection, report details and other technical issues associated with supported operations systems to identify trends and locate new process improvement opportunities. Collaborates across laboratories to identify best practices that are compliant with College of American Pathologist and other regulatory requirements and makes recommendations to improve consistency, efficiency and quality. Develops spreadsheets, documentation tools and educational/training materials relating to new computer applications, system updates, and other organizational goals and changes. - 15%
• Coordinates the process of change control maintaining required documentation and assuring communication with lab and non-lab users of laboratory operations systems. Collaborates with project lead/manager, IT and departmental stakeholders to ensure project and departmental goals are met. - 15%
• Performs frontline troubleshooting of instrument interfaces, peripheral devices and applications. Investigates causes of system malfunctions and aids in the prevention of errors. Identifies system/workflow issues and corrects or notifies the appropriate team for resolution. - 10%
• Assesses reporting needs and ensures requirements of the laboratory are met. Aids in the verification of reports as to the completeness and accuracy. Develops meaningful and useful data to be presented for quality improvements. - 10%
• Represents lab operations in multi-disciplinary groups to ensure continual improvements. Acts as a liaison between vendors, management, multidisciplinary peers and end users for issues and implementation activities of supported operations systems. Communicates pertinent laboratory information to Prisma Health team members and clients. - 10%
• Participates in operational development and system testing assuring accuracy and trouble-free interfacing between the LIS and other hospital and clinical information systems. Provides end user support during system upgrades and serves as a subject matter expert to assist in go-lives. - 10%
• Responsible for third party laboratory operation supported systems. Configures and maintains build information. Creates security groups and assigns new users as needed. Communications with vendor where appropriate. - 10%
• Knows and abides by Prisma Health policies and procedures including compliance policies. Communicates effectively in person, by phone and in writing. Participates in work unit action plans and supports department-based goals and initiatives which contribute to the success of Prisma Health. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory and non- mandatory continuing education; accesses training needs and participates in Continuing Education (CE) programs annually. - 10%
• Aids in the development of lab operations information system policies and procedures using established laboratory document control guidelines. Oversees and maintains document control process to ensure the standardization of procedures and reduce duplication. Ensures CAP compliance with IT requirements and provides documentation for interim and on-site inspections. - 5%
• Keeps current on new features, techniques and methods regarding laboratory services, computer hardware and software and works with clinical staff to identify functional capabilities. - 5%
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree - Health Sciences, Information Services, or a related field
• 2 years - Laboratory, Laboratory IT, Data Analysis or related experience
In Lieu Of
In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above an Associate degree with 4 years of laboratory, laboratory IT, data analysis, or related experience as approved by laboratory Administrative Director.
Knowledge, Skills Or Abilities
• Fundamental knowledge of project management methods. - Preferred
• Ability to work independently; effectively facilitate and/or lead multidisciplinary teams. - Required
• Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Office Tools (Word, Excel). - Required
• Strong analytical skills and problem-solving aptitude. - Required
