Job Responsibilities
Serves as Assistant District Construction Engineer, assisting the District Construction Engineer in managing district construction functions. Prepares responses to inquiries from others, including SCDOT personnel, state and federal agencies, and the public, concerning constru ction engineering. Reviews plans for proposed projects and makes recommendations for improvement. Reviews, analyzes, and compiles data as necessary to advise District Construction Engineer on county construction personnel staffing needs, and manages Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) contracts required to meet those needs. Represents the Department at public meetings and serves as liaison with county and municipal officials. Supervises District Asphalt Manager and ensures the district office is effectively supporting the Resident Construction Engineers and the Department mission in pavement related matters. Provides expert testimony in court relating to engineering procedures. Manages construction related encroachment permit application reviews in the district, assigning their review to the appropriate Resident Construction Engineer, and ensures the reviews are completed in a timely manner. Performs other related duties as assigned.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and six (6) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
