Patient Attendant - Liberty Township ED - Part Time
POSITION TITLE:    PATIENT ATTENDANT
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To assist the professional Registered Nurse staff with one or multiple patients as assigned and delegated by a Registered Nurse, in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care activities for the division of Patient Services of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.
To provide 1:1 direct observation and re-direction to patients presenting with an immediate safety concern including but not limited to suicidal ideation, flight risk, aggressive behavior, traumatic brain injury, removal of lines/drains/ airways, harmful to self, patients with social concerns, or to specifically monitor patients with an External Cerebrospinal Ventricular Drain (EVD).
Representative Responsibilities
• Plan of Care - Provide approved care of assigned patients and assist in implementation of interventions under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Provide direct 1 on 1 patient observation.  Engage and assist patients with daily living tasks and developmentally appropriate activities.  Use crisis control techniques and assist in de-escalation of patients and visitors.  Offer assistance to co-workers after completion of own duties.  Assist with patient transport as requested.
• Communication - Demonstrates the Cincinnati Children's CARES behaviors in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and co-workers by actively participating as a frontline example of extraordinary customer service and satisfaction. Reports present status or changes in patient condition on an ongoing basis and in change of shift summary. Completes timely documentation of information in the patient medical record. Seek information and guidance when needed.  Discusses concerns of work situation with Director or designee.
• Environment - Ensures that within the division, all areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for patients, families, visitors, and employees. Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients and families. Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures. Adhere to safety procedures appropriate to children's ages and development levels.
• Administrative Support - Responds to communication system/patient alarms and executes with a sense of urgency. Answer the telephone in accordance with CCHMC telephone etiquette. Assemble charts, order patient supplies, and stock clerical supplies. May assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
Education/Experience
Required:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• No directly related experience
Preferred:
• Completion of a high school health careers program or current ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited nursing program student.
